“Note: in an effort to increase B group size and reduce the ability range in the E group, we adjusted the racing score bands this week by reducing the E group from 0-260 to 0-230, shifting the D and C groups down 30 points, and expanding the B group’s range a bit to 510-690.”
The Z2 C pen was not light on ability yesterday. Considering Eric lowered the ceiling 40 points putting me about mid-pack in ZRS, those were some of the hardest races I’ve ever done on Zwift. At the end of race 4, I had nothing left and got passed on the finishing flat by 10 racers. I know I have no sprint but that was ridiculous.
So, no it wasn’t less extreme for the C pen. The A pen wasn’t either. A friend of mine who’s a strong racer got dropped in races 2-4 and actually was slower than I was in those races…
If you look up racers at ZWIFT ZRS v3 by VirtuSlo based on the best 5mins and the weight they set it at, you can see what 100% seed score that would give from data you can see and determine if at 100% they would have been too high for yesterday’s pen C ranges.

Looking just at pen E top 5 final classification (races 4-1) on zwiftpower and where zwiftpower data would put their 100% seed score at the end of the quartet…

So races above excludes anyone on zwiftpower DQed and it completely excludes anyone not on zwiftpower… Not many in the 0-230 range!
It’s an improvement on previous weeks when pen E was 0-260, which could allow anyone with poor results at 85% seed floor with a 100% value of ~306 (eg. a 75Kg with a 5mins of 260W).
But a combination of the floor being 85% of seed score and pen exlcusion between Tiny Races is allowing a number of racers to race in a pen below their ability.
And this is only looking at the top 5 in final classification of zwiftpower racers, there will be a number of others just in pen E guilty of the same thing.
I think I know the answer to this, but I would like clarification.
My racing score is currently 340. So I am able to sign up for cat D(all 4 races). If I do well, and my score goes over 350, after races 2 or 3. Will I still be able to continue onto the next race? Or if I finish all 4 races, and my zrs goes over 350. Will my results stand, or will I be DQed?
When I asked Eric about this a few weeks ago, he said racers who finished less than 25 points above the official Racing Score limit would not be DQed from race 4. The leaway used to be 15 points until recently.
Yet to hear anything about pen exclusion working within a Tiny Races quartet.
Thanks @Steve_Cl , good to know.
I just entered the relentless races, one cat up. Most of the riders are private, but a couple of the ones, I can see are way stronger than me. Going to be tough . So I’m guessing, going over cat limits tomorrow will not be a concern.
Leeway has been 25 points… for months now. I actually don’t remember it ever being just 15, but maybe I forgot what I did several months back.
Pen enforcement should be fixed in the next Zwift update or two, they tell me.
Alrighty, another week of Tinys and another week of Sandbaggers. The guy that won all four of the Z2 (8am PDT) C pen (350-510 ZRS) Tiny Races had a 466 ZRS AFTER the races. AND he won a total of nine races since the 22nd of March. His 5 minute floor is about the same as mine but he’s got a 11.5 - fifteen second and a nearly 7 - one minute. His one minute as about the same as my fifteen second. How does this compute in ZRS? And how does it keep happening? We had the same thing a coupla months ago in the C pen with a guy who had a 394 ZRS winning 3 of 4 Tinys.
