Zwift has a range of abilities. If the content is too hard people complain, if it is too easy people complain. Zwift has failed it’s user base by pandering to both and making everything fit the middle ground.
The only way to fix this would be for riders like you need to accept that not all content is going to be for you. Riders like me to accept that Zracing isn’t for me. Zwift to accept that they can’t please everyone and make highly differentiated content.
They’ve (JamesB) has essential made Zwift Games '25 just like his TT Club, with longer routes for stages further into the series. The dropoff in the number of fishers as the weeks progress is very telling and has been since he adopted this approach for all abilities.
There are a whole 7 (seven) riders on the zwiftpower league pen E who have completed all three routes up to the end of last week, with one of them having completed stage four so far in ~1hr15mins…
Only two (2) pen E completed all five stages of the previous series, that increases to three (3) if you look at pen Es who completed four of the five stages!
For the Zwift Games there’s really only one long route though. The route before it is only 20.9km with under 400m of elevation.
There is no shortage of short races on Zwift, so I don’t see why it’s a bad thing to have one “queen stage” in an event. Even riders with low power can benefit from a longer ride. If the elevation is an issue you can just lower trainer difficulty and go at your own pace.
Exactly, why I won’t have a PRL Full badge to my credit, and also not a vEverest (8900m+). On Zwift I stay away from extreme long rides now (but okay outside).
Given the new unique classification table Zwift Games '25 is getting, how hard would it have been to have offered three different routes per stage with mass starts, as a short/medium/long duration route?
So like Tour Of Zwift, but officially races, choose your pen to determine expected duration to complete.
Effectively three GCs, one per short/medium/long duration… Some might compete in all three, some might just compete in one.
Perhaps even with crazy coding that used 4+ coloured jerseys to signify where you were in the Racing Score scale.
ZRS is already screwed up enough. Mass Start, single Cat, races just lead to 50% of the field automatically getting downward scores because duh, they’re E, D and C’s riding against As. And of course, all of the A riders, and probably most/all of the B’s in a single Cat mass start event all pretty much are guaranteed score increases.
If Racing Score was a vELO system, weaker riders in a mass start race would be expected to finish behind stronger riders, so their score wouldn’t drop much if at all providing everyone put in reasonable effort.
That’s an openskill not being appropriate for Zwift racing issue but they can still do mass start races with all 5 categories starting in the same pen.
Does anyone? They’ve said they don’t know why small groups are giving bigger point movements than large groups, and obviously no one here really understands what they’ve done (due to lack of communication).
Wouldn’t surprise me if we get record numbers of racers flagged for lack of effort, because they want the new route badges and are treating the Zwift Games like group rides.
First women race has just started, first open race starts in ~8mins.
