Zwift freezing [1.68]

First time I’ve experienced this - Zwift has been installed on this computer and used regularly for about 18 months (and I’ve been on Zwift since Feb 2015). Today, three times Zwift froze between 2 and 5 minutes in. The computer completely locked up with a sound element from Zwift cycling (sounds a bit like a chainsaw!). Unable to use Task Manager to reset; had to do a hard reset each time.
The computer is a PC running Win10, i5 6500, Nvidia 1080 8Gb, 16 Gb RAM, 2TB SSD.

Hi @Tim_Collins_PACK

Shuji at Zwift HQ here. I looked at your server log history, and am seeing a series of log ins but no successful log out to indicate a “normal” end of session until yesterday July 29.

I also noticed that you’re on a slightly outdated version of Zwift launcher 1.1.12. It would be useful to get you on the latest version 1.1.13 and while you’re at it - doing a complete removal of all Zwift-related files before doing a fresh re-install.

The Windows Uninstall process from the Control Panel leaves behind some files. Please follow these instructions for a full re-install steps. If you have custom workout files - don’t skip the steps to save those.

If Zwift has been stable forever on your machine - let’s start with that to eliminate the possibility of files getting corrupted. FYI - game version 1.69 is in phased rollout this week to finish tomorrow (Wednesday). When you wrote in - you were still on 1.68. I only mention this to keep the triage process from going down the wrong path.

Once the game starts up - check your game setting menu to see if you have video screenshots enabled. Try disabling that and also check to see how much free storage you have on your 2TB SDD. If it’s filling up, you make want to delete old videos until you have 10% free space or greater.

If that still doesn’t solve it - please contact our Support colleagues so we can delve deeper into your specific PC and see what issues we might unearth.

Hi Shuji. Thanks for your reply. I assumed I was on 1.69 as no updates were available!

Firstly, my system description was wrong. I swapped out the 1080 for an AMD 5700XT some months ago (and I’d forgotten!).

I did a full update of Win10 (including optional updates) and then updated the AMD drivers. They were only a couple of iterations old, but I thought I’d better make sure to eliminate that as a cause. I then ran Zwift for a short ride and, as you saw, it seemed to be ok and I shut it down normally. It’s too hot to do a longer ride in my cave right now!

I’ll follow your suggestions anyway and report back when I’ve completed the process.
