as Companion is not a video game - it’s just something that read game data and display it on portable device (a’ka interact in terms of selecting / joining event , messaging and ride ons) .
on Github you can find dozen project which allow to interact with Zwift using API calls that Companion is using
Yep, cannot see the zone or anything in the workouts now. Which was a great feature to see how wide the band was to help ensure I stick with expectations.
There are 10% of all Android devices not functioning with Zwift companion anymore.
That does not mean that 10% of Zwift customers can not use the ZC anymore.
It’s not just about you own device.
Your device is connected to the Zwift server and this connected to many other Zwift users companion app.
A security leak or breach on your phone is a risk for the Zwift severs and other users as well.
And the most important point is that the Zwift companion developers have to invest much time to make it compatible with each Android version/SDK.
They do not.want.to invest time in devices with old Android version “no one” is using anymore.
Newer Android Version enables the developers to use more modern functions in their apps, which are not possible at all with older versions.
In the end it is what it is and your and others moaning will never make Zwift developers to support your jurassic devices again.
You know that if Zwift get more people on the platform they make more money.
So if they can make Zwift run on any Device they would make more money. So limiting the use of older devices is hurting them therefore they try to keep as much as possible devices supported. But at some point they need to make the hard business decision to limit lower end devices so that they can keep improving the product and have a safe and secure platform.
Find a version before that one, or a version that doesn’t have the code that tells you to update - I run an older version on Samsung’s Android 4.0 and it works fine. When I’m next in the bike room I’ll find the version # for you. EDIT: 3.38.0 (1416)
Hello Shuji,
there is an issue with Companion App 3.43.1 running on Android Version 12.
The follower navigation is broken. If you select a follower and going back afterwards,
companion app jumps to the startup screen instead to the list of followers.
This occurs using Android 12. For Android 9 the navigation is correct - it jumps back to the previous screen - the follower list. I couldn’t check other Android versions.
If I filter on TdZ, I can get thru today’s and tomorrow’s events, but when it gets to Wednesday, it gets stuck in an infinite loop, going from the event at 18:00 (EST) back to 00:00, and no amount of scrolling will get me any further ahead.
If I filter on “Fondo” type, to see the rides this weekend, it shows me nothing for today thru Wednesday (“check back later for events on this day”) as it should, but when it gets to Thursday, it shows the WTRL TTT races, nothing for the weekend, and then on next Tuesday one ZRL race.
The Fondo ride type isn’t used anymore, and it’s been showing TTT races under that filter setting for quite a while. All the Fondo / Fundo rides are categorized as Group Rides now, so the only practical way to look for them is on the ZwiftHacks events page.
Hi,
I lost ZW Companion connection too (on smartphone)… I used it only to see the daily agenda of events, any idea of another way to see this list on smartphone or pc ? I still can zwift with my computer.
Thank you, Stephane
I opened a support ticket, I’m expecting an Ambassador to pick it up and blow it off since it’s clearly not something they can deal with. It needs the developers to troubleshoot it.
I have done some testing, and have concluded that in my case the workout screen is available in free rides but not when in a meetup. This is similar to what friends with Android devices have been dealing with for awhile now.
I recommend everyone experiencing the issue open support tickets so that Zwift knows how wide spread the issue is.
