The biggest problem with the branding for me is that the ingame design is so at odds with the new homescreen. the look of everything in game is all geared up towards the old homescreen. Is that due to change too?
Personally I hope not.
Old font was better IMO, it doesn’t bother me too much though. As ever it’s more the fact that it seems a totally needless change when there’s so much else to do regarding the look and feel of the game, and user experience.
Yeah. I did my first ride in ages last night and while I certainly did notice the new font, it barely registered on my list of annoyances while riding. Unlike, say, the lack of useful feedback on drafting or a readable gradient profile. Or, for that matter, a loader that forgets your password and/or goes all white every now and then.
possibly but not sure i want to be scanning the screen to compare numbers while riding at threshold
For me it’s not so bad i zwift on a large screen in 4k but I can understand those on other devices could find it annoying. Simple enough fix for zwift if they just cut the 1 a bit.
I don’t think people are losing their minds. I do believe people are voicing their dislike, myself included. Did it ruin my ride. Nope. Does it make me want to quit Zwift. Nope. Is it annoying to look at. Nope. Etc… But, I definitely prefer the previous font.
Hopefully, it’s not the big update for the month! Although, that wouldn’t surprise me if it was.
In software development and UX (and maybe other disciplines), we have a principle called “The Principle of Least Astonishment”. It basically says that a user of a system should not be surprised or astonished by how a system/feature looks or behaves.
When I’m riding in Zwift, I want a font that I ideally don’t pay attention to because it is clear and easy to read. It is fit for purpose. I want to focus on what is happening in the game. When the font becomes something people dislike and find hard to read, like the 1 and the unusual uppercase letters, they are “surprised” - they did not get what they expected. It becomes noise and bad UX.
100% of my household noticed the change, and 100% dislike it. We might actually be OK with it if the characters weren’t constantly changing widths, which is very annoying. I’m not sure if the previous font did this, also, but if it did it was not nearly as noticeable.
