It was changed in my ride last night for sure, but I was still able to move through the bunch side to side. Not as quickly, but I could do it. I’m not moving in a way that another avatar couldn’t, I’m just able to do it intentionally.
The pack dynamics don’t slip a rider to the inside of a curve, for example. But I can do that if I want (even in my ride just last night). It’s not a draft benefit, but it’s definitely a steering benefit. And the ‘front of the pack’ part still applies. When there are two ‘spikes’ of riders pulling at the front, I have the ability to slide back and forth between those two trains. I can’t push anyone else out of a draft, but if the left group is moving faster than the right, I can slide over to that group.
It’s definitely not as fast through the bunch as before, but it’s still possible.
I just mean the parts when we see a rider fling out the side of the group (remember my pictures from the update thread of the blob splitting apart?)
Steering through a blob is more luck of the shimmy though!
But to Od’s point however, you aren’t shoving anyone out of the group. That’s just… PD being stupid.
What I’m curious about is if the TTT is now on PD5 as well.
As of this week on all of my rides I haven’t been able to tell if anything is really different from what it was in December/January.
From what I’ve noticed it seems draft-seeking is fractionally faster?
But still noticed the blob separations a little bit…
For sure–steering isn’t pushing anyone around. It might look like that one time out of many as the draft is moving someone over simultaneous to my steering, but it isn’t repeatable–it’s not caused by my steering.
I was just saying that steering still has advantages even in the bunch. They’re less now, but still there. Before, going through something like the Esses, I could move from the back of a pack of 50 to the front in two or three turns, without putting out any more power, just by cutting sideways and taking the apex of each turn. It will take a bit more time now as the sideways cutting is slowed.
I don’t mind riders having their own space, but the problem is that steering riders are getting pushed or moved aside by non-steering riders when they pass.
