Try this, set both to 20 to 60s
Hey, having a problem with the game where the game freezes mid ride. Startup is fine and as per usual but just freezes mid ride. Sometimes after 4 minutes and 30 minutes and even an hour. Why is this happening? Never had these issues before and have uninstalled and reinstalled etc several times in fact and still no fix. Can anybody help please⦠Running Windows 10.
What are the CPU and GPU in the PC?
Hi Paul, its Intel. I hope I am answering your question correctly? A bit of a computer dinosaur!
Hello,
My latest Zwift sessions are problematic. After a couple of minutes of riding my screen freezes. I run Zwift on my laptop. My trainingsession continues on my phone with Zwift companion. My last session without problems was on february 4th.
I tried deleting Zwift and install the latest version, but this doesnāt solve the problem. Iāve been Zwifting on this laptop for several years now and never had any problems like this.
Laptop settings:
- Microsoft Windows 10 Pro
- 10.0 19045 Buidl 19045
- Intel Core i5-6300U CPU 2.40GHz, 2 cores
- Intel Graphics 520
I looked at the last couple of logfiles and saw a few error messages.
-
Game Version: 1.106.0(158210), launcher version 1.1.14
- No problems on 04-02-2026
-
Game Version: 1.107.0(158475), launcher version 1.1.14 (session on 15-02-2026)
- GL error GL_OUT_OF_MEMORY
-
Game Version: 1.107.0(158475), launcher version 1.1.15 (session 20-02-2026)
- GL error GL_INVALID_FRAMEBUFFER_OPERATION
- GL error GL_OUT_OF_MEMORY
I donāt seem to have had any systemupdates since the last good Zwift session. Do you have any idea what the problem could be?
Thanks in advance!
Iām so happy when a person shares the PC specs! It lets me point you to this discussion:
Hi @Wes_Irwin, welcome to the Forums! Iām Francisco from Zwift Support.
From what I can see, your PC is running with Intel HD Graphics 520 plus 8GB of RAM. I checked your logs, and it shows a GL_OUT_OF_MEMORY error, which means the graphics card is struggling to keep up with the workload Zwift puts on your computer. This can cause the game to freeze midāride, even if the startup looks fine.
A few things you can try:
-
Make sure your graphics drivers are fully updated from Intelās website.
-
Youāre running Windows Build 19041; itās worth checking if a newer update is available.
-
Close other apps while riding to free up memory. You can open the Task Manager to check which programs are using the most GPU, memory, or CPU. If you notice something heavy running in the background, closing it can help free up resources.
Thanks for posting.
Ride On.
Francisco provided the clue we need: your graphics adapter is Intel HD520 and there is a known problem with that. You probably do not need to do the stuff Francisco recommended. Instead you should try installing the video driver that Intel published in 2022 which is described in this topic:
There is a link to the video driver there, and most of the people reporting that problem who have similar PCs said it helped.
Thanks! This new graphics driver made the difference. Iām very happy!
canāt load that graphics driver?
There are a couple comments in this thread from people who got it to work. Check this one for example:
Since the most recent game update (Version 1.107.0 Build 158475) my game will randomly freeze and require me to use the task manager to close it. I have had some luck (seems 50/50) recovering the .fit file from what was logged prior to the crash.
Looking over the logs, I saw several āGL error GL_OUT_OF_MEMORYā entries.
I have been using this old laptop to run Zwift for the last several years without issue.
Processor Intel(R) Core⢠i3-6100U CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.30 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.9 GB usable)
Storage 112 GB SSD Samsung SSD 840 EVO 120GB
Graphics Card Intel(R) HD Graphics 520 (128 MB)
I initially tried to update my graphics driver. It says it is the most up to date version available.
Graphics Driver Version: 25.20.100.6518 - Released 1/9/2019
Some other fixes I have tried:
Low resolution
Windowed mode
Disable any blurring
Disable screenshots
Today I added the TdrDelay and TdrDdiDelay commands and set to 30 seconds to see if this will help.
Has anyone actually solved this issue yet? I have another laptop I can use, but I liked having the old dedicated rig.
Thank you in advance!
Here the same problem (random freezeāes) for my 2 surface pro 4ās (i5 on Windows 10 and i7 on Windows 11). Both Zwift logs have entries: GL error GL_OUT_OF_MEMORY.
Both Surface pro (Intel(R) HD Graphics 520) drivers are from 11-10-2018, version: 24.20.100.6299.
The solution is too download the gfx_win_101.2115.zip file and force update to 31.0.101.2115, driver date: 16-11-2022.
Thanks @Paul_Southworth
Hi @Francisco_J thank you very much for the guidance and information. Will use the information and attempt to solve the problem. Otherwise, a new laptop seems to be the perfect solution. Regards Wes
Thanks @Paul_Southworth also much appreciated and super helpful of you. Solution attempt loading sir⦠Grateful!
I was able to get this 2022 driver installed after a little bit of a struggle.
When initially trying to install it, it said my HP would not allow it as the drivers were locked.
I had to delete the driver, cycle power, and reinstall the new driver.
This took 5-10 min.
Went for an hour ride without issue.
Unsure if I need to keep it in windowed, low resolution, and the delays enabled.
I am having the same problem as described in this thread: older MS surface pro, and my problem started on February 10th. I have re-installed the app, turned off the photos, and I am still getting a frozen screen 10 or more minutes into the ride. I have attempted to download these drivers from Intel, and receive a message when running the .exe file saying that the file is locked by manufacturer specfications, and to try downloaded the latest driver. The .zip file returns a message that says no driver was found that can be installed on the current device.
Hello folks,
Weāre investigating this at Zwift HQ. Zwifters affected seem to be on older Intel 6th gen integrated GPUs. Right now, it looks like installing Intel graphics driver version 31.0.101.2115 is a valid workaround for some Zwifters. We well share further updates as we know more. Please feel free to contact support if you have any additional issues or questions.
