Why does my result show in Cat C?

I’m a Zwift newbie. I’ve done exactly 2 group rides: the first 2 stages of the Tour of Watopia.

According to my profile, Zwift thinks my FTP is 154, and my Racing Score is 96 (whatever that means). My weight is 69kg. So I make it that my zFTP/kg is 2.23, which I think puts me in Category D.

When I look at my 2 results on Zwiftpower, my Profile there shows me as in Category D. But my results for both “Races” shows me in Category C.

In fact, when I look at the full results for each of those stages, hardly anyone at all appears in Cat D. For Stage 2 (which I did today at 13:00 UTC), only 1 person out of about 140 riders is listed as Cat D.

What’s going on?? Thanks for any help understanding this stuff! :slightly_smiling_face:

(I tried to post this in the Events forum but apparently I’m not allowed.)

I think zwift power shows you what pen you were in. Not because you are a category C

This is not a race. The A, B, C cats for the tour of watopia indicate the distance (long, standard, short, and D is women only).

Thanks for both these replies. I have the answer my question!

But it raises another one: why is there no pen for Cat D in the Tour of Watopia?

The tour of Watopia isn’t a race so there is no need for categories. The ones are used for different routes during the tour. A is usually the longest/hardest B is the middle distance and C is typically the shortest route.

Hop on, push the pedals and you will find a group of a similar pace then enjoy.

OK I see. Thanks for explaining.

Then at best it seems very confusing to use the same Category indicators for those events.

It would be better to have Pens 1, 2 & 3. Or Short/Medium/Long. Rather than use the letters for Racing Categories?

Yeah this catches noobs by suprise every year, Zwift can seem pretty limited at times with how things were originally built and how it has evolved over time. You just need to read the descriptions and not assume anything. Even some group rides will use different definitions for the categories rather than the typical w/kg power bands.
