I’d like to get a Zwift frame to use with my Tacx Neo 2T and am confused about compatibility. The frame comes with a Zwift cog v2, but I also see discussions online about different cogs (Garmin editions, multi-trainer additions), freehub, no freehub, etc.
With a Tacx Neo 2T, can I just get a frame and use the cog that’s included? Or do I need to buy a different cog? Or do I need to indicate to Zwift which trainer I’m using and they’ll send me the appropriate cog when I order my frame?
Yes you can use the cog that comes with the Ride frame.
The Elite/Garmin 18t cog they sell separately is intended to provide a cog that (a) works with the Elite trainers due to the lower gearing, and (b) does not have a freehub included that won’t work with Garmin or Elite trainers.
Thanks for the quick reply, Paul. Just to be clear on what you mean on part (b) of your answer above. The cog that comes with the frame will slide over my Neo 2T freehub (it’s like this one in this video called “Zwift Cog (No Freehub) Set Up +” [sorry, I can’t post links]), or will I need to remove my freehub like in this video titled “Zwift Cog With Multi-Trainer Freehub Set Up”. And how do I think about your comment from a few months ago about removing the 14t cog where you said
You would use a Shimano lockring tool and a chain whip to remove the 14t cog from the multi-trainer freehub. Then install it on your Tacx freehub. It should not be torqued like a cassette - only 5Nm or you might break it.
Zwift have said that it does not matter which size cog you use on the Neo. The 18t cog is advisable for people on Elite trainers.
. I’m sure very stupid question, but if I remove the 14t cog, what cog am I using then? I don’t see anything in the videos about removing the 14t cog…
Thanks again.
Hi @_3_Brad_DW9,
Thanks for your post in the Zwift forums. This is Jose from Zwift Support.
I see you’ve already opened a support ticket and received information from my colleague Camilo. I’d like to add that if you purchase the frame only (without the KICKR CORE), the included cog will be the Cog v2 without a freehub. Unlike the multi‑trainer cog, it doesn’t require freehub removal. Garmin trainers also don’t require the 18‑tooth Zwift cog, so the cog included with the frame will work with them.
You’ll just need to install it onto your trainer’s existing freehub body.
If you have any further questions or need assistance, feel free to reply here.
Thanks.
Perfect, thanks so much, Jose. That’s really clear and solves my problem.
