What happened to the "Ride with" in the latest version of Zwift?

I do not follow many riders but there is a couple that I like to jump on the bike and ride with them when the Zwift Companion App on my phone sends me notification they are riding.

The “Join a Zwifter” feature dialogue box in Zwift used to work just fine, you could join a rider as their name would appear but not now, you just get some random rider there and not the person you want to ride with.

Hey @Carl_Watts,

Thanks for posting in the Zwift forums! Jose here from Zwift Support.

I totally get your concern about the “Join a Zwifter” feature, and I’m happy to provide some details.

Previously, when you got a notification via the Zwift Companion App that a rider you follow was active, you could easily hop into their ride. Since the feature moved to the new home screen, many users have reported seeing a random rider instead of their preferred contacts.

There’s already a discussion on this topic, so I recommend checking out this main thread.

If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly here.

Thanks!

Is that really the topic over there.. that thread is from over 2 years ago?

Hi @Carl_Watts , thanks for asking about this. No, nothing should have changed here, so we’re taking a look to confirm nothing is wrong with the Join a Zwifter card.

One thing to know: those Zwift Companion notifications send when someone logs into Zwift, not when someone starts a ride. Join a Zwifter, on the other hand, only lists people actively riding. It’s possible your friend logged in and wasn’t riding when you checked, but we’ll still dig into it on our end to be sure. We’re also looking at updating that notification logic to only send when someone starts Zwifting.

Seems to be suddenly fixed but I still don’t know the point of riders that you don’t even know let alone follow showing up on the list. Note I’m in the habit of looking for this in Zwift on the PC when I login and not on the companion App which lives on the bike. Perhaps a more direct solution is when I get notified they are zwifting and I open the companion App and give them a ride on there should also be a join button or something there. Also would be great to know exactly what route they are on not just their speed whick I don’t really care about.

Maybe put it in the Companion App. Rather than the “Activity is still in progress” when you click on them and they are Zwifting it would be far more usefull to have a “Join them” instead.

The problems just gets stranger, the join card shows up correct when I run Zwift in Windows 11 but my favourites are totally missing with Windows 10. Had 3 favourites riding at the same time today, none of them showed on my Windows 10 PC that is basically dedicated to Zwift by the bike. The windows 11 laptop was perfect, showed all 3 and their current pa e etc.

Thanks for the additional info @Carl_Watts ! We’re taking a look to see if we can understand why you’re seeing what you’re seeing.
