Trouble with ERG-mode?

Lately whenever I ride a course and go downhill I can not reach the requested wattage. Even in my heaviest gear I can not reach a relatively easy 250 watt. Does anybody have an explanation voor this. By the way, I ride in ERG-mode, like most Zwifters I guess.

What sort of gearing is on your bike and which trainer are you using?

I (and I’d say most) Zwifters only use ERG mode in workouts.

What is your setup - bike/trainer/gearing?

Was it working OK before?

Hi @Reffik_Meeng

Welcome to the forum.

ERG is only used in workout mode, I assume you meant sim mode.

It sounds like you are running out of gears.

Dear Paul,
thx for reacting on my topic.

My bike has a gearing of 39/34 (‘front’) and 12/12 in the back. I use a relatively unknown brand for my trainer, but I know that Kristian Blummenfelt (worldrecord holder triathlon) use the same brand: The DARE2RIDE FUEGO 1.0.
I wanted to enclose the weblink but this forum prohibits that.

Hope to hear from you.

Regards,
Reffik.

I only starting Zwifting a half year ago but I think it was working ok before, but I’m always, no matter what ride I choose on Zwift I’m always only using my biggest gear in the front (don’t know the correct word in English) and the same for my gear in the back. So I don’t ever have to use the lower - easier gears even when I do a climb in Zwift.

Hope to hear from you, regards, Reffik

Dear Gerry,
thx for reacting on my topic.

I saw some Youtube clips on ERG-mode, but I still don’t really understand the difference. Isn’t any ride in Zwift a work out mode? What happens if I change from ERg-mode to sim mode?

And yes, I feel like I’m indeed running out of gears. But shouldn’t it be so that you can use Zwift with any (standard) gear set?

When you are doing a Workout (Like your last ride) with set power targets then you are in EGR mode.

When you are just riding around with other people or in a group and Zwift simulate the hills then you are in Sim (short for simulation mode)

If you are in workout mode the terrain should not impact the amount of resistance on the trainer, but form your last workout it look like it does.

Can you post a picture of the Zwift pairing screen.

Do you have any other cycling computer or phone connected to the trainer?
