Trainer Resistance | Trainer Difficulty too low, Simulation and ERG mode do not adjust resistance [January 2023]

So glad it isn’t just me…Kick’r not working in ERG and power felt doubly hard for the effort. No issues yesterday. Tried restarting several times, re-paring on the ANT dongle several times. My hour window to train is gone. I know it is first world problems but I am ultra irritated.

Are you sure this page is working?

Anyway, it should display the server status and the current problem is located in the client.

The Zwift team seems to be more and more overwhelmed by the growing complexity of their proprietary platform. This was expectable and it will get worse if they will not change anything. The competitors use professional gaming engines while Zwift still builds its own engine.

Resistance issue here. Seems to be reversed.

A QUICK FIX that worked for me just now in the Tour de Zwift…

In free ride mode unplug the power of the trainer, wait 10 secs or so then re-connect the power. This seemed to fix the inverted slope resistance for me.

MacOS here. ERG mode all over the place with power readings. Never had this before. Maybe a red herring and it’s another issue with ant+ or something but symptoms of that are usually different. ANT+ kickr core.

I’m also having the “zero trainer difficulty” issue.
Windows 10, ANT+ FEC connection, Elite Direto 2 trainer.

My 2 cents, I believe that with some future update that end users need to be empowered with the ability to defer an update.

Same issue here. Two workouts ruined. Any idea when the fix will come or when we can revert to the previous version?

OK, I think I’ll jump in here. I’m not tech savvy and find a lot of the discussion overwhelming but I’m glad I’m not alone with these issues and I hope they can be sorted soon.

I was having problems with ERG Mode in workouts before the update and I’m still having them now. Before the Zwift update the troubles were hard to define, but always during step downs in power, applying more resistance when trying to decrease power output, and of course the “Death Spiral”. I put this down to the inexperience of a new Zwifter.

Today, doing a workout, I’m having the same issues, but it was so very obvious during cool down where we want to step down from 140 Watts to 90 (for example) and the machine actually boosts the resistance, to the point where I was standing on the pedals! I found pressing A on the keyboard, bringing up the Pairing Screen and then re-entering the workout reset the Erg but I had to do this every time the Power Wattage stepped down.

I have…
-New Wahoo Kickr Snap with the latest firmware
-Windows 11
-do not use Zwift Companion
-use Bluetooth

Look forward to reading more about this, hopefully a solution.

Just piling on at this point, but ERG and gradient simulation are not working for me. 0 resistance change.

  • Wahoo Kickr Snap (ANT+ FE-C)
  • External power meter (Stages)
  • Software is running on Mac OS on latest update

I’ve tried restarting the trainer, restarting the mac - uninstalling/reinstalling Zwift and nothing solves it. I tried connecting to Bluetooth via the companion app and that also didn’t work.

Wahoo app can control the resistance on the trainer, so this is definitely a Zwift issue (which seems obvious after finding this thread).

Have you tried using BT? That’s my same setup, except I use BT, and I’m having no problems.

Just finished a long ride, and aside from a couple of brief messages in the chat of people mentioning the issue (but not saying they were having trouble), you wouldn’t have known there was a problem based on how people were riding. Seemed like a normal amount of people on too.

Very strange–a very highly selective but debilitating set of bugs.

Neither sim nor ERG functioning after updating to version 1.33, even after uninstall and installing from scratch, “forgotten” sensors, no other active application etc.
(P.S. With Wahoo RGT no problem)

ERG not working after update. After reading this thread, searched my house and luckily found an old BT dongle. Replacing ANT+ dongle with a BT one solved the issue. (Except that it took some tome for the BT Wahoo device to show in the “Controllable” box, whereas it was immediately detected in the “Power Source” one.)

Same issue here. I’m using W11 and Elite Direto XR connected via ANT+. ERG mode not working and I´m not feeling the changes in gradient. I tried the workaround connecting via Bluetooth through Companion App, and it appeared to work, but when I stopped and got into the garage, changed the bike and came back to Watopia, no resistance again. This is frustrating!!! What about a process to revert to the previous version??? Solution as soon as possible.

Same here.

Elite DrivoII and windows 11. FE-C always worked faultlessly. 1.33 applied and ERG and gradient not working. Ruined my workout.

Short bit of Emily’s Short Mix on Tempus Fugit, Mi A2 mobile app, ant+ fe-c pairing to Saris H3…
All good.

Will try and test Bluetooth on Mi A2 tomorrow, Bluetooth on Poco F3 and ant+ through dongle to Surface Pro 4 on Windows 10.

The gradient/speed simulation is way off. Shouldn’t be able to use top gear uphill! Tacx flux, flawless until this update

No ERG in the workouts for me too. It was working just 3 days ago. And to think, I spent this entire afternoon troubleshooting!! Thought is was a Windows problem. Thankfully I found this thread or I’d be troubleshooting all night.

I really don’t think it is that highly selective. This is the most reports of the same issue i have seen after an update.

Did you do a workout of free ride?

sim mode was okay for me but erg mode didn’t work.

Tacx Neo connecting via ANT+ FE-C to a laptop running Windows 10.

Like others, since Zwift on the PC upgraded to 1.33 yesterday I have no variation in my trainer resistance with ERG mode enabled in a workout or when when not in a workout when the gradient changes.

Connecting via the inbuilt bluetooth on the laptop is not an effective workaround, symptoms remain unchanged.

Pairing using the Bluetooth bridge in the companion app is an effective workaround for me. Trainer resistance in ERG mode then changes to hit the required power in a workout.
