Tour of Watopia 2021 FAQ

I’m a non-native English speaker, so maybe my choice of words was not the best, but the idea is that different things are being made available differently to you based on your gender, which is not right to do regardless of which chromosome you carry.

Is it possible to late join on these events?

Looks like it:

The only term for things that don’t exist… “fallacy”

They had TdW last year as well, it’s not like they are just now trying their hand at it.
Someone wanted to “improve” on the format and here we are…

Think again…

Back at you. Look beyond the end of your own nose too

There are 3 (A, B, E) mixed event versions, and only one woman-only - is this what you are complaining about? :grinning:

If I was a woman, yes, but as things are, I can only speak from the Y side
@Gerrie_Delport_ODZ is spot on, that’s the (only) approach that ticks all the boxes for everyone, I’m glad there are people thinking the same way and organizers willing to do it :+1:

B and E are rides on the same route, the shorter, easier route. A, the harder or longer rides are for all, B and E on the easiest, shortest route are for all. There are those of us who would also like the opportunity to ride the middle level route. @Gerrie_Delport_ODZ has the right idea. Also the approach used on the TDZ, and many previous rides worked. Why does this ride have to be different, and exclude males from the middle level route.

My guess is the women’s courses are unique because the organizers are hoping to lure more women into signing up for them. I hope it works because having a group ride with hardly any riders is the same as giving a short person a box that still doesn’t allow them to see over the fence.

The women only ride is such a non issue when you look at the distance of the rides available to all! This chat is just a bunch of fragile men missing the point completely about the whole thing.

I have to admit that I’m a bit jealous that I cannot do the Road the Sky route in stage 5 as part of the TOW. It is only available as a group C ride. That being said, in the entire history of the world life has never been perfectly “equal” or “equitable”, nor will it ever be. In the end, I’m just happy that I can ride on the trainer without staring at a blank wall like many of us were doing 15 years ago. Cheers.

Looking at the stages again I notice there is no D group.

Can’t D be a copy of C but as a mixed event?

That’s what Petre suggested.

I was going to participate as a Cat E, but the creators of this event only created times for the first ride on just two days (this Mon and Tue), and primarily during the day. People that work full time usually cannot ride during the day or in the middle of the night. I’m disappointed I won’t be able to participate since I can mostly only ride on weekends. Perhaps next time they could consider each ride across 7 days instead of just 5 for a better turnout by ensuring each ride spans at least over one weekend.

You can ride each stage over a weekend, if you do stage one during the makeup week.

This is the first Zwift event I have seen since I have been a member of Zwift, and will be riding in where 1/3 of the routes are off limits to one sex or another. I hope this is not establishing a precedent Being retired, I, historically ride 3 of the rides for a stage, with a rest day between, or 2 of the rides for a stage. Ride a day, rest a day. More rest days this time, unless I do the rides free. That’s not as much fun, since much fewer riders to compete or ride with.

Best not look at the Women’s Ride and Run series then. That was only open to women.

There are lots of rides of this type. They are not mixed, with men being allowed to ride a subset of the rides. They are openly Advertised as Women Only, and I have no problem with that. It is a good approach to encourage more women to ride. We ne3d more women to ride. Biking is a really good form of exercise, and given the bulking up of the population in general, anything to get more folks out riding is good. The ToW, however is not in that category. It is more along the lines of a y’all come and ride, but oh, by the way, men can only ride 2/3 of the rides.
We have all made our points. Enough of this. Zwift will either fix it or claim they can’t. We can all (if women), or 2/3 of us (if men) go riding in a couple of days. Regardless, it will be fun, and keep us out of the April mud season.
