With the release of the Urukazi Expansion, we’re seeing a few new Easter Eggs around the Makuri World. Specifically, Zwift seems to be stepping up the whole “mechs and monsters” theme. In addition to all the mech parts, there are at least two somewhat rare “sea monsters” that pop out of the water in Urukazi, one near a waterfall, the other near the Tide Pool Sprint.
Maybe old hat to some but they were new again to me:
On the New York map, near the northern baseball diamonds (approx. 6km into the route if I’m reading ZwiftMap.com correctly), there’s a baseball player facing the road, smacking his bat menacingly at you as you ride by. (no screenshot of that - I think I was just too surprised)
13.1km into the Richmond UCI Reverse route, at the monument, there’s a dude in the spectator stands wearing a giant foam Zwift costume, jumping up and down. Caught some sub-optimal screen caps, probably because I was laughing out loud. You go, little dude.
As an aside: I don’t think I really appreciated the Richmond map until my ride of the Richmond UCI Reverse which just got its own route badge. The attention to detail is stunning.
You will see this in other places, also. I think there are at least 3 in Richmond, a couple in Paris, and some other places, also. Try to find them all!
So on doing the return to the arch on Tempus Fugit as it gets close to the end looks like it shows a rock structure that resembles a rock being from behind. Am I just too bonked that I’m seeing things?
I’ve also seen what roughly looks like the running statues from Watopia in other worlds.
On the return, close to the area where the terrain gets rockier after the desert look. Looks like 2 legs, and a very muscular rock beast derriere. There’s a capture of it on my Zwift Machine. Oh, the bypass? Most definitely.
And all the squirrels in Makuri! Like WOW!! I commented that I was getting sick of all the virtual squirrel butts and got a bunch of Ride On’s, and the comment ‘Be glad they are simulated’. Way true that…
I seem to find new things every so often. Makes it interesting.
Oh, is that the indestructible one in the Titan’s Grove hot springs? I love that little guy! So cheerful.
I thought they’d brought the Buffalo Bike back into line, no? From this source:
UPDATE: Zwift released update 1.0.9778 on 2/1/16 which modified the Buffalo bike’s weight and CdA. This slowed the bike down considerably, making it the second-slowest bike in the lineup.
Little Easter Egg on par with the friendly sloth: riding through the stalactite caves in Urukazi with D.Miguel today, we got buzzed by a flying fox (aka “bat”).
I didn’t get a screen cap of the close fly past (little guy had glowing red eyes) but I did get a snapshot of one of his buddies circling.
So did I, but I managed to stay with the Constance group last week with this bike on Tempus, using DT Swiss disc wheels of course. Seemed to be little difference between it and the S5 2020 in speed.
Buffalo + Disc seems to work well enough on flat routes. Try going up any sort of incline (OK, maybe something a bit bigger than the Col du Tempus) with it and it’s a total pig though.
