That is what Echelon did with their spin bikes recently when they added Bluetooth encryption to comply with the new European regulations. I doubt they really had to do it that way, but like many equipment manufacturers they are trying to force people to use their online ecosystem. I haven’t heard anything about Technogym’s approach but it sounds similar.
