Swift for teenagers (Family)

Hi.

My teenagers are swimmers and biathletes, but they could use my new trainer once a week for some cardio training.

I can’t spend 40$/month for them just to use my new wahoo trainer?

Since I bought it with a swift cog it can only be used with swift I get it correctly? Is my only option to by a cassette to the trainer and skip the swift cog or can I use the swift cog in another way? (Another app or with swift basic somehow).

Zwift virtual shifting works with the Rouvy app too.

ERG mode workouts don’t depend on virtual shifting

With the cog, they can do ERG workouts in most Zwift competitor apps including those that are free as well as use Wahoo’s basic app.

Thanks! So my teenagers will go for the rouvy app instead. To bad we can’t use the same, when they get older they can decide which app to use

Just a note that beyond 20km per month, Rouvy is not free. A Duo plan for two users will still cost $30 per month.

You have multiple options depending on what the kids want to do.

  1. Easy - just take the cog off and put a cassette on if you’re using a bike on the trainer and not a Zwift Ride. Shifting is the same as on the road.
  2. Even easier - Wahoo app can run a workout in ERG mode. Though you can do this with a cassette on as well. Note that having the cassette on does nothing to make your virtual shifting experience any worse.

You can try other apps that have free trials. KinoMap is a good one for riding real-world routes, for instance.

I don’t know if it will work with your set-up, but My Whoose is similar to Zwift and is free - so may be worth checking out.

Or, if all they want is some cardio, let them use your account, and introduce them to the glory of pacer rides!!!

Has nothing to do with all the extra drops they will earn for you

Seems like a win / win situation to me!
