Smart trainer/ike that can be used by everyone?

Dumb question (I guess)

My Directo XR pretty much packed up this morning, so likely to be in the market for a replacement in the near future.
My issue is I have a limited amount of space and my family also want a fitness bike. Therefore Ideally I need a indoor bike that offers standard functionality (time / power /speed/calories etc) without the hassle hooking up to a app, as well as obviously ZWIFT compliant.
Again, apologies if this is a dumb question!!

What are your requirements?

Zwift Ride is the cheapest easily adjustable, fully Zwift compatible “smart bike”, I believe.

Issue there - no shifting, so would have to be used with apps that control resistance of the trainer in ERG simple resistance mode, or have implemented their own virtual shifting.

Wahoo Fitness will do that on a Core connected to a Zwift Ride if all you want is to set a resistance and ride while watching Netflix or something like that.

If you’re looking for using it with other virtual world apps, you’d want something different, more like a Kickr Bike, WattBike, or Stages Bike. (Probably in that order) - There are a few others, but those are the ones I’ve talked to people who have them.

Thanks for coming back - Ideally, I’d love a smart trainer where I can race, so ideally not rely on a resistance nob, freewheel etc. However also have a built in Monitor so my wife/kids can hop on and just pedal, viewing their progress without using an app - ie keeping it as simple as possible.

Just seems its either/or

You could put a cycling computer on it as a display, or use a tablet with a cycling app that just shows stats (eg, QZ)

I wouldn’t buy a Stages bike because the company failed. Garmin/Tacx bike might be worth considering in addition to the others mentioned above.
