Was doing the Volcano Eruption route yesterday and had two instances of a rider on my wheel inducing Rubber Banding (abrupt zoom in and zoom out). My standard camera view, and I do not change, is similar to this:
In both instances the rider following had steering (I do not).
Is this rubber-banding or an artifact of PD5?
My system:
Win10
i7-7700
RTX-4060
Thank you in Advance.

Hi @chris_benten1, welcome to Forums! I’m Francisco from Zwift Support.
That “rubber-banding” effect you’re seeing could be related to Pack Dynamics 5 (PD5), but it’s more noticeable when a rider with steering is involved. Since you don’t use steering, it’s possible that the game is trying to predict movement differently for you and the rider behind, which can sometimes cause that zoom-in/zoom-out effect.
With the latest updates, Zwift adjusts rider positions dynamically, and when the steering is involved, there may be small position corrections that cause this visual effect.
- Some Zwifters have reported issues with camera zoom behaving unexpectedly, especially when other riders move closer. You might want to check out this thread: Bug: Map Zoom Level Incorrect (Superzoom).
- Sometimes, minor connection issues can cause rubber-banding. If your internet had momentary packet loss, it could have desynced the positions temporarily.
Your system is more than capable of running Zwift smoothly based on your setup and outstanding RTX, so I’d lean more toward a game-side behavior rather than a hardware issue. If it keeps happening, you could try switching camera views (just to see if it persists) or even testing a ride in a different world to compare.

I’m not sure of the cause in your case, but sometimes this can be affected by the GPU’s refresh rate. If disabling the springy camera helps, then that’s probably what’s going on.
@Paul_Southworth Thank you. I remember seeing that note. I will check to see if I did that previously. I did not notice the issue on Saturday when I did the Q25 stage but not many others were going as slow as me
I have the RTX set at 60 FPS as that is the refresh rate of my TV.
