Resistance issues in game version 1.104 [December 2025]

How many teeth on the chainring you are using? Do you have the option to use a larger one to see how that differs?

I’m using the cog so I can’t chose

So do you have a 1x or 2x crankset on your bike, and how many teeth are on the chainring you are using on it with the cog? Can you post a picture of the power graph you’re seeing on the screen?

Can we please get an update here? I understand this isn’t a P0 issue but this has been pretty widely reported by significant amount of users. It’s causing such an issue at high power for me and can cause an injury with the unexpected change in resistance.

I just experienced this again today. I think I figured out a commonality though between my 2 rides. Game resistance in both cases disappeared after a period of coasting (0 power), after which starting up pedaling again, the virtual shifting does nothing.

Restarting game and the computer did not fix either. What did work was pulling the trainer’s electrical plug and plugging back in again.

Good morning, I use Zwift on my PC and pair my sensors via the Companion app with an Elite Direto XR. I recall updating both the app and the game before December 29th, and for the first time, I encountered this issue on the climb THE GRADE.

It’s important to clarify that during my Everesting attempt, this braking problem only occurred on the first climb. From the second ascent onward, the issue was not present.

Initially, I had thought the problem on that first climb might have been a local control measure because it was the day of the official Zwift Everesting event, and an interactive smart trainer was mandatory. Unfortunately, a similar problem has recurred daily since then—for several minutes at the start of my rides, the trainer brakes, and I have to stand on the pedals to push through. You can really hear a loud braking noise.

On December 29th, this issue made the entire first climb (I had to complete it 29 times) terrible, as I was forced to climb at 40 RPM because it was impossible to increase the cadence. The 10% grade felt like 30%, and if I tried to increase my cadence, the power output would spike as well!

Since that day, this problem happens almost every time I start. Today, I saved a 3km session that you can review: 30 RPM at 250W, while the workout was supposed to be at 170W. Please fix this issue quickly because it’s destroying my legs at the start of every ride. Today, after ending that first problematic 3km session, I started another one with the same workout, and the problem did not reoccur.

Since you have a Direto, you should also rule out the possibility that the motor screw needs to be cleaned and lubricated.

Thank you, but I need to emphasize that my trainer is perfectly functional and calibrated, with no sign of dust or wear. This issue comes exclusively from the latest version of Zwift and only occurs for the first few minutes of a ride—the minutes that are destroying my legs without any warm-up.

It must be resolved with the utmost urgency, not only for me but also for another friend of mine who owns a Direto XR-T, bought just 6 months ago (so brand new) and is experiencing the exact same problem.

you should contact support then, support@zwift.com

Exactly the same here. Kickr Core 2 connected with BT and Virtual Shifting loses Resistance and VS is acting weird. Coasting seems to trigger it.

Just checking.. this issue does not seem solved by latest version updates, Is this still an open ticket?

@shooj is there a ticket open for this? or do we need to log our observations with the support team? (I’m keen not to waste everyone’s time if this is already known and under investigation)

If you’re still having issues then please contact support, it is likely.a different issue than what this thread is referring to. Support@zwift.com

Hi everyone, I’m also having connection issues between my Kickr Core 2 trainer and the Zwift Ride via Bluetooth. I’m running macOS Tahoe 26.2.

The Zwift Ride connects without any trouble, but the Kickr is a nightmare; Zwift detects it, but it won’t actually connect. Or at least, not every time. When I do manage to get it working, the ride experience is terrible: there’s a 30-second lag between my pedaling and the avatar’s movement, and the resistance is all wrong—I feel like I’m climbing even when I’m going downhill.

The only workaround I’ve found that works perfectly is connecting the trainer via Wi-Fi. Once connected that way, everything runs flawlessly, including virtual speed and resistance.

I’m not sure if other Kickr Core 2 users have tried this yet, but it might be the solution until Zwift fixes the bug.

Direct Connect over WiFi is the most capable connection channel and should be the primary option, not a work-around.

I agree. I’m sharing my experience because, while Zwift’s website claims that a Bluetooth connection is mandatory for virtual shifting, that’s not actually the case for me. I connect the Kickr via Wi-Fi and the Zwift Ride via Bluetooth, and it works perfectly. So, it’s definitely worth a try if you have a Kickr Core 2

I’m still experiencing resistance issues after the latest patch (1.105.3), which actually first appeared in the previous update. I’m using a KICKR v6 Direct Connect, Windows 11, and like others have mentioned in this thread, I’m having to ride 2–3 cogs higher than normal to maintain expected resistance.

I’m also getting intermittent resistance dropouts during free rides and group ride events. These are especially noticeable in high-load sections or when cresting a hill. The sudden changes in resistance are putting extra strain on my knees, which is becoming a real problem.

I feel this issue needs higher priority, as it has the potential to cause physical injury and is more than just an inconvenience or minor bug.

I’m still having this issue as stated in earlier post (150) anybody with an update from zwift/support?
