Race results in Zwift Power bearing no resemblance to reality

I know this is a very common complaint, but the explanantions I have seen really don’t explain the obvious discrepancies. In a 45 min ride I finished 3rd on screen and in the companion app. But on Zwift power I am 6th, beaten by a rider I overtook in the last couple of miles, and the winners put out 78 and 55 watts! It is clear they were lapped at least once but for some reason appear as 1st and 2nd. Looking at the rider infront of me on Strava I can see he rode a shorter distance than me and put out significantly less watts towards the end, hence why I overtook him, but he shows as finishing 14 secs ahead of me on Zwift Power.

Please don’t give me the ‘ride in the pack to get the draft’ or other data related issues, the on screen result was there for me to see and is backed up by the data in Strava. Why can’t Zwift Power get this right? This by far not the first instance of this happening, it happens all the time. Why?

link to the zwiftpower event?

maybe it wasn’t configured correctly by the organizer?

group ride not race

if this was the BC Bike Race RECOVERY ride, then it isn’t a race it is a group ride. Zwiftpower shows it was set to have late join available (which is not possible in a race) and all riders visible, with the scoreboard so you see your place in the riders nearby list. Group rides results are sometimes totally random and do not follow who crossed the line first. Everyone finished at 45:00 minutes, it was a timed event, not a race.

Welcome to our community

Hopefully your issue is sorted now.

If it’s a timed ride then the results have zero bearing on where you finish on zwiftpower as it’s not a race

…and timed races have the same problem. They are rare but if you enter one, be prepared for some ZwiftPower chaos

Then why does it show riders finishing 14 sec ahead of me that I was ahead of in the ride?

Gary

I don’t know if they still do, but Mountain Massif chase races used to have late join on a staggered pen start.

zwiftpower shows 8 riders all doing 45 minutes, im assuming it was the BC Bike Race Recovery Ride you are talking about? Its not a race its a glorified group ride for 45 minutes

Maybe the fact that the organizer’s name is BC Bike Race (named after the very famous MTB stage race in British Columbia) is causing confusion here?

That event used to be rubberbanded group ride, not sure if that’s still the case.

I know it wasn’t a race, but if so why put results out on Zwift Power, and if they are put out, why do they not reflect reality? At the risk of repeating myself, I passed a rider towards the end who now shows as being 3 riders above me (I finished in front of the two riders in between us as well) and 4 seconds ahead of me. If we all finished at 45 mins how is he 14 secs in front, and if it was not a race, why are there these results anyway? The companion app shows the right actual rider order and the fact that I covered 0.3 mile more than the rider who shows on Zwift Power as being 14 secs ahead of me.

If it’s not a race, don’t produce results, but if Zwift Power does, produce them accurately and not ‘randomly’ that mean nothing and only cause confusion. What is the point on being on Zwift Power otherwise? It’s meaningless. If this continues I might as well leave and look on the Companion App and Strava for the facts.

Gary

Many people just refer to the Zwiftpower site for the power reporting metrics that are available. You’re not required to visit it.

Ok bye :waving_hand:

For races, especially those operated by the community, ZwiftPower may be the only valid source of finishing results. For example if it’s a points race, or riders are disqualified, that’s where you’ll find the proper results. ZwiftPower is a moribund app and they’re slowly integrating its features into the game, but that work is not close to being completed. So right now we’re in a situation where some events have valid results in ZwiftPower, some don’t, and ZwiftPower is getting almost no further development so you should not expect missing features to be added to ZwiftPower. If you look in Companion, for some events you will not see valid results.

Bye, helpful and explanatory as ever. Thanks Zwift Power.

Zwiftpower was not made by zwift, it was made by people who wanted to see results from races they did, it evolved overtime and zwift eventually took control of it

Zwiftpower is good for results but not for group rides that aren’t races

If you want the history lesson:

When ZwiftPower was created and the only home of racing, Zwift HQ’s story was “we don’t support racing, you’re lucky we don’t kick you off the platform for doing it.”

Zwiftpower started including group rides in order to include the power metrics from them in categorization when categories were based on 95% of 20min in the last 90 days. Some people would avoid doing a steady 20min in a race, but would do big long efforts in group rides.

Then people running group rides didn’t want race results on how far you were ahead encouraging people to race their rides instead of staying together, so ZwiftPower randomized the results for time based rides from the start (I think - this is foggy)

For lots of rides where people contest segments or group ride to a certain point and then launch - the power metrics being in ZwiftPower are great. Not everything is about results.

No one “is ZwiftPower” anymore, Zwift took it. And the functionality that community organizers want from ZwiftPower could absolutely be done in-game and on Zwift.com - there are Sauce for Zwift mods that do much of the scoring live, and they’ve already put “League” standings on Zwift.com for zRacing.

If you’re even thinking of looking at “results” from a 45 minute recovery ride, then what you’re really asking for here is for the software to protect you from own daft self.

Just hit the “Races” button on your Zwiftpower profile page so you only see races. All will be well.
