Please recommend a tavle computer that wont give me Connection Failure

Hi there

I have a zwift indoor trainer. i have a samsung android table computer that I have sitting in the cradle on my zwift indoor trainer. I also have an ant dongle plugged into the usbc port on my table computer.

During my zwift ride, I am guaranteed to get ‘Connection Failure’ at some point during the ride and zwift ride disconnects and it’s game over. I have to end the ride, exit zwift, turn bluetooth off and back on from my table computer, reboot zwift and set everything up again. I have moved my fan out of the room and turned off other bluetooth devices in the vicinity. I have switched my wifi channel to 5Ghz also. Nothing works.

tablet computer setup
samsung tab s7 FE 5G
Android version 14
Zwift version 1.0.140664

I connect zwift ride to my phone via the companion app. I get a connection failure after around 25 to 30 mins. my phone details are
samsung galaxy A51
android version 13
zwift companion version 3.67.0

I also try connecting zwift ride to my table computer - same problem. connection failure after a while.

zwift ride firmware version is 1.2.0

The trainer came with a wahoo kickr core.

Im almost at the point of giving up using the android table computer since i cannot find a usbc bluetooth dongle for android online. i bought a tp-link usb a donle and connect that to my android table via an OTG cable but the dongle is only supported for windows. I gave it a try anyway.

Im looking to find out what table computers people are using where they dont get connection failures? Any other things I can try before giving up using my android table computer? Does anyone know of a usb bluetooth dongle that you can buy for an android device?

Thanks

You should be on version 1.85 which corresponds to 1.0.141681

I’m not sure if that’s related. The other thing to think about is diverted pairing, where you have the game running in the background on a 2nd device, or any other app paired to the trainer such as the Wahoo app.

Did you already update the trainer firmware as well?

(Sorry I don’t know if it’s possible to replace the built-in Bluetooth adapter with a dongle on Android.)

By the way, @mark_holmes2 mentioned he has the S7 FE as well so perhaps he has experience to share regarding that tablet

Hi @Paul_Southworth

Thanks for the suggestions. Ive never heard of diverted pairing. Have you a link for setting that up?

ill try update the firmware etc.

Thanks again

Diverted pairing is a problem, not a solution. It happens when the trainer is paired to more than one thing such as a second instance of Zwift, but it could be any app that is connected to the trainer. A common scenario is that Zwift is installed on a mobile device, the app is swiped into the background but not terminated, and then Zwift is installed on a second device and you try to use it but there is still an active connection to the trainer on the first device.

Oh I see. Thanks for clarification. Ill see about other tablets. the reason id like the tablet option is because i have the cradle on my zwift trainer. thanks @Paul_Southworth

People seem to have good luck with ipads

Hi @KJ_25 welcome to Zwift forums.

Shuji at Zwift HQ here. Unlike the others helping out, I work here and can see your server log history.

What I’m noticing in your case is not simultaneous logins from more than one device, but what appears to be abandoned sessions that you don’t end with the expected save-and-exit. This can have the same net effect as the diverted pairing issue that Paul mentioned upstream. This is especially problematic for Zwifters using mobile platforms (Android / iOS / Apple TV) rather than desktop computers.

  1. Don’t just swipe Zwift into the background, his leaves the app still running. Please get in the habit of saving-and-exiting (or trashing-and-exit) each Zwift session. This is the expected flow.

  2. For troubleshooting purposes: unplug your trainer and plug it back in before you log in to Zwift.

  3. In the interest of thoroughness, reboot your Android device too.

If you do those things - does the trainer’s signal pair more reliably?

Hi @shuji

Id say those abandoned sessions happen after i get the connection failure and have to try and reconnect some way. Ill try out those tips. I always unplug and power down everything after i have finished on zwift. But maybe ill try power up the trainer after logging into zwift.

Thanks for the feedback
