Pixel Watch 3 Heartbeat

I recently got a pixel watch and through the companion app the broadcast heartbeat does not transmit properly. It connects but doesn’t display the heartbeat. Other apps like TR work just fine but zwift doesn’t seem to.

Hi @Mark_Hedley

Shuji at Zwift HQ here. I’m not familiar with the Pixel Watch 3 and its capabilities over Bluetooh. In particular, do you know if it multicasts a Bluetooth signal so more than one thing can receive it?

  • If the watch is already paired to an Android phone at the OS level (like a pair of earbuds), the Bluetooth signal won’t be visible to Zwift.
  • Same if it’s already paired to another app like Fitbit, or TR (guessing you mean Trainer Road?), or something else.

Hi Shuji, Thanks for the feedback.

I’ve tested unpairing and repairing the watch only to zwift and this does not seem to have any effect. It’s worth noting that this isn’t a pairing issue. The app detects and pairs with the watch. It just does not display the heart rate.

Zwift is listed as compatible with this feature so if your intent is not to support you should probably reach out to Google and have your app removed from the list. I tried to include the link to Googles support site but I’m not able to share links.

Search for pixel watch 3 broadcast heart rate and go to the Google support link.

If this helps I just went through the pairing cycle again and it looks like when pairing on the companion app it doesn’t complete the pairing. It detects the watch but doesn’t finish pairing.

With apple TV directly it detects the watch, and then pops a pairing prompt with a code. This code step doesn’t happen when pairing through companion app.

I can’t pair through apple TV because of the Bluetooth limit.

@Mark_Hedley
Google says the Zwift app is compatible with that watch? Would you type out the DOT in the URL? i.e. google DOT com/xyz123/

Thanks for the assist @Wannie.

I’m raising the question to the team here.

The watch is visible to zwift both directly and in through the companion app. The companion app won’t fully pair though.

I work at Google but not in our pixel team so let me know if you need a contact and I can try to track one down.

Thanks @Mark_Hedley for raising this and the helpful troubleshooting steps, we’ve also got some connection points to the Pixel team and we’ll dig into this a bit.

I’m having the same issue and did some additional troubleshooting. Here is what I have found.

Pairing the Pixel Watch 3 directly to a Zwift PC via Bluetooth works with perfectly. My heart rate is displayed and matches what I see on my watch.

When using the companion app I can pair my watch successfully however my heart rate is always being reported as zeros.

Will attached excepts from the logs later today.

Attached is the except of the log file when connecting via the Zwift Companion App.

In this setup my heart rate is always reported as zero and when the cycle starts I getted a Connection Error message on the top left. No heart rate is recorded.

I have the same issue with my Pixel Watch 3. It also has issues connecting to my Wahoo GPS for what it’s worth.
