I guess this brings up another point of feedback for this style of feature that gives ride suggestions and tells me my fitness status, and presumes to know how hard I should ride today… In cases where I know I’m detraining, and know I can’t go all out due to sickness, injury, vacation, etc… I would like to shut off the suggestions until I am ready to train again, otherwise continuing to see anaerobic efforts suggested alongside “detraining” is really not motivating when I know there’s not much I can do at the moment other than sit and spin.
So I guess in addition to the ability to “turn it off completely” for folks who just don’t want it, I would like the ability to temporarily disable the suggestions while I recover from sickness, injury, vacation etc.
I guess in my case I’d also want to disable the fitness trends in addition to the recommendations. I know I’m detraining at the moment (even though Zwift currently thinks I’m fresh)
that would also be great… but baby steps
I know that ZHQ is “working on improvements” but I wish they would spend a few seconds to communicate what they are working on and what the timeline is…
It needs to have the ability to tell someone to NOT ride on a particular day when they are really fatigued.
I know this is going against driving engagement with Zwift (and helping to make virtual traffic jams in Zwift), but what if the recommendation ends up with someone getting injured? How does that help with user engagement…
What Zwift might need is a little help from Chuck Yeager. Test pilots, a Beta team. Made up of people willing to test new tools before implementing them or involving someone unsolicited. A.I. as a training coach? A button in the companion app to join a test version. So that, upon invitation, feedback and suggestions flow back in a more serene, objective, and constructive way.
They did that for this feature. I suspect they focused on “is this functioning at minimum viable product level and not crashing the game” over getting useful recommendations.
I agree, the option to set a clearly defined and achievable goal yourself. Just like a coach in real life, you have to take all the data into account: age, rest, nutrition, and other types of sports or efforts performed. Certainly worth considering for some. Personally, I don’t need it at the moment, but never say never. And from the responses, it’s clear that an “off” switch wouldn’t be a luxury. But the idea itself isn’t that bad. There’s still quite a bit of work to be done, that’s for sure, and every beginning is difficult. What I appreciate is that they’re constantly trying to innovate.
I like the feature. I did a longer than usual ride this morning (Knights of the roundabout - in my quest to complete Tour de Zwift!) and used the suggested longer workout (“the long ride”) to liven it up. A perfect choice. I’m planning a shorter harder ride tomorrow and interested to see what workout Zwift suggests.
