Pair Through Phone Button

Brand new KICKR Core… Cannot get my Zwift Clicker to stay connected for longer than 2 minutes, tried everything but a pre firmware update, nothing seems to work. I want to use the companion app as a bridge, lots of people use this solution, but my android tablet (Galaxy Tab S6 Lite) pad does not display the “Pair Through Phone” button. Installed Zwift on my office computer and the button shows up, but I cannot get it to appear on my tablet (main device).

I’ve read a few threads that said you cannot bridge between two android devices but support assured me that it would work.

Anyone else come across this issue and know how to get the button to appear?

Hi @Ron_Dryburgh welcome to Zwift forums

Shuji at Zwift HQ here. I looked at your server logs and I’m seeing you’re logging into the game app from three different computers at the same time: a Samsung A54 tablet, a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6, and a Windows PC.

Simultaneous logins from multiple machines will cause all sorts of problems including this one. Your devices might already be paired to device1 when you’re trying to pair it device2. Be sure to end each Zwift session with a save-and-exit (or trash-and-exit). On mobile devices, also force-close the app in OS settings. Simply swiping an app into the background is not the same as force-closing it.

Try this: install the game app on whichever tablet you want to use, and uninstall the main app on every other device so you can avoid simultaneous logins completely.

You can and should leave the Zwift Companion app installed on a (separate) mobile device - most folks use a smartphone for that purpose. Be sure your tablet and the Companion app are on the same WiFi network - that’s how the Companion app “sees” the main app and vice versa.

I removed Zwift from every device then reinstalled it on my main device (Samsung Galaxy Tab S6), opened Zwift on my Tab S6 (deleted data and cleared cache), logged in, and got the same result; there is no Pair Through Phone" button.

I then deleted the data and cleared the cache again, created a new account using a different email address, and got the same exact result; no “Pair Through Phone” button.

I then reinstalled Zwift on one of my Windows PCs, opened Zwift, logged in using my new account, and the “Pair Through Phone” button appears.

Can you tell me if this is even possible? Can you use an android phone to bridge to another android device? I’ve eliminated the simultaneous logins from the equation so that’s not the problem; the Windows version of Zwift works but the android does not. Seems like an issue with the andriod version or it’s simply not possible.

Hey @Ron_Dryburgh
Thanks for eliminating the simultaneous logins variable.

There’s a few unrelated things happening. Let’s run them in order of highest priority.

The Samsung S6 series tablet has a record of spotty Bluetooth reliability for some reason. If you use the Windows PC to run the main Zwift app is the Click more reliably paired over Bluetooth? And is it viable to use that as your Zwifting computer?

What you’ve read is correct - you can use the Companion app on a smartphone as a Bluetooth bridge with Apple TV / laptops / desktops, but NOT if the main game app is running on another mobile device.

That may be a moot point since you’re not using Apple TV to run the game app. Using Companion to bridge your trainer / heart rate monitor signal is important to people who use Apple TV which restricts the number of Bluetooth signals you can pair to.
