NPE Runn Sensor calibration?

Hi,

I have an NPE runn sensor with 5 stickers evenly placed. I have it set up to zwift which runs fine however it seems to fluctuate and the avatar seems to look like it’s running slower than I am on the treadmill but the speed is nearly the same.

I’ve used the configurEZ app to configure and have the latest firmware to get it as close to the treadmill speed as possible. However I found for me anyway that using the zwift spanner was more accurate. Again I’m new to this so may be doing it wrong. I have the runn sensor around a pencil spacing from the belt to the sensors under it.

Now to the problem itself If say the speed is set at 10.5 on the treadmill I find it fluctuates from 10.4 to 10.5 to 10.6 constantly. I’d like to get it closer than this if possible.

What would you suggest trying. Thank you.

If you have it so it is only fluctuation 0.1 above/below the treadmill console display speed then you have done very well indeed. The fluctuation is natural. As your foot contacts the belt each time it causes it to slow and then speed up.
Depending on the quality of your treadmill depends on how much fluctuation you will get. The better the motor then the less fluctuation.

In reality without using a smart treadmill you are as accurate as you’ll get it.
5 stickers is also interesting as less is normally better 2 or 3 being optimum.

So well done on a successful setup.

Run On!

Thank you for your reply Stuart. I wasn’t sure if i could get it closer than this. What I mean to say by that is to stop it fluctuating so it stays more consistently on a number however zwift shows the number constantly flickering to say 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, 10.5 for example. It’s annoying to look at and I’m not sure if other runners can see this always fluctuating.

If I enter races and they see this fluctuating would it bother other runners for example. Regards

There’s very few running races Jay and what there is there’s no verification of results.
The fluctuation won’t be an issue. Others only see your current pace in the nearby runners list.

Not everybody has access to a smart treadmill so acceptance of varying paces is fine amongst runners.

You’ll be welcome in any event with your setup.

I run each morning at 9am UK time as part of my 10k challenge. Feel free to drop by and join in the chat.
There are running events all through the day every day too and you’ll be welcomed throughout.

As others have said, your speed readings are fine. I have a Ruun Pod and have counted how many times the belt rotated compared to the Ruun over a minute and worked out the speed, like you was about .1 kph off from real life. Do bear in mind that .1-.2kph is the equiv of 1-2% accuracy and personally for running Im happy with anything below 5%. Direct drive bike trainers are accepted with 2% for races so Id be well pleased.
