Hi,
since last weekend, I can’t choose the 4k resolution in Zwift. I don’t see the option, there is only a grey box in the menu. I chanced my graphics card from Nvidia 1060 6gb to a AMD RX590 8gb and the option ist not available any more. The problem is, that I changed the graphics card at the same time, the latest update was installed.
Could anyone please help me???
Thank you so much
It looks like Zwift made some changes to the Graphics Option selector in the menu for Windows with the last update. You can no longer select basic, medium, high, ultra for each resolution. It’s possible they also baked in a GPU auto-detect template on their end and will only show resolutions that match your card in their template, and perhaps the Zwift approved settings for the RX590 8GB are funky.
Try editing your prefs file in C:\Users\Documents\Zwift. specifically this line.
<USER_RESOLUTION_PREF>3840x2160</USER_RESOLUTION_PREF>
Also in case you haven’t already, double check your BIOS to make sure the CPU integrated graphics didn’t get re-enabled when you did the GPU swap.
Thank you very much for your answer.
Sadly it doesn’t work. The resolution changes back to
<USER_RESOLUTION_PREF>1920x1080</USER_RESOLUTION_PREF>
every time i start zwift…
The changes to Windows graphics in the latest update weren’t mentioned in the Update details, so this is mostly guessing.
If in device manger you can only see your RX590 display adapter then I think my theory of Zwift implementing an updated Windows GPU auto-detect template may be correct. It wouldn’t hurt to open a ticket with Zwift to verify they have enabled 4K with the RX590 8GB.
I can’t set 4K on my Vega anymore.
After checking, I found that the file ComputerSpecs.txt from the /Zwift/Logs directory which is a dump from the DXdiag program contains diffrent information about the amount of graphics card memory.
Interestingly, the DXdiag program reports correctly. I do not know how it is possible that the same DXdiag test run a few minutes apart (manually and through Zwift) generates different data.

Question to Zwift developer team whether this has an impact on the choice of resolution or whether they have closed such a possibility to play at 4K resolution.
I’m still able to select 4K resolution (with Nvidia GPU) so it’s still possible.
My computerspecs.txt file also has the different data you highlighted above with respect to graphics memory as compared to when running the dxdiag from the desktop so I don’t think that is the issue preventing you from selecting 4K.
2 AMD GPU users not being able to select 4K after latest update seems awful suspicious. Sounds like Zwift needs to fix an AMD GPU issue caused by latest update.
@ _Pedals thx for update.
Can anybody else can confirm problem with 4k resolution on AMD cards?
PS:
I reinstall Zwift and still no 4K option for me. Only difference I found Zwift use 32 bit DXdiag versus 64bit windows10 built in.
AMD cards do have 4K/Ultra graphics options, but not all of them (much like Nvidia cards). I’ve asked our dev team to look at the RX590 8GB and see if we can add it to the list.
Also I’m having them look into the Vega losing it’s ability to have 4k.
Thanks!
Confirmed here no 4k on my Vega 64. I can force the 4k in preferences but it defaults to high settings not ultra. If I open the settings menu Zwift bumps me back to 720p.
To the op, edit the preferences as suggested but do not open your settings menu thereafter. Just pair up, choose your workout or course and ride. That’s been working for me for now but not an ideal option.
My computer specs are reading just like Piotr’s.
I opened a ticket with Zwift and the response was that I might have a Vega integrated APU that needs to be disabled as suggested by someone here. I don’t. I built the rig myself. I’ve monitored my card with the AMD link app (awesome feature of AMD) and confirm it is rendering Zwift handily.
I responded to Zwift that my card is the MSI Vega 64 8gb air cooled and is the only option for running Zwift. They sent this back. "While your GPU isn’t one that we’ve optimized our system for at this time, our developers are hard at work getting things sorted out for the wide variety of newer GPUs. With so many different GPUs, this is a lengthy and never-ending process.
At this time, I can only suggest that you change your resolution manually. I’m sorry for the inconvenience."
That’s where I’m at right now. Going to respond and link this forum as well as zwiftalizer benchmarks of other users Vega 64 doing 4k ultra.
Will post back here if any progress is made.
Somehow missed Eric’s reply above that they are working on a fix at Zwift. Good to know!
Thank you for your response and for ensuring that you are working on a solution.
Surprising for me fact that there is such a problem with rendering on AMD GPU.
You use the standard OpenGL API to render graphics that has such a poor set of 3D elements and graphics effects in 4K resolution is not a challenge even for 1060 cards with 3G VRAM. On the faster cards with more memory is the problem with this?
Solve the problem because it looks bad. We all pay the same subscription and I expect professional support and service without developer preferences for graphic card manufacturers.
I’m on a Macbook Pro with a Vega 64 egpu (Sapphire Nitro+).
I CAN choose 4k ultra in the settings menu. It DOESN’T change when I get back. And according to the preferences my resolution IS 3840x2160. But… When uploading my ride to Zwiftalizer it says it was done in 576 ultra!
In other words: It seems like my Vega 64 is recognised (and saved) as a 4k card. The only problem is that I don’t get the 4k…
Probably just an unintentional error on their part in the last update since the AMD cards were previously supported.
Keenly following this as I am experiencing the same issue.
The “profile” of my AMD Radeon 590X is “basic”, and the shadows are appearing as huge blocks like Minecraft
Hi Marc,
Happy to hear that I’m not the only one !! I’ve submitted a ticket and the answer I have so far is that I need to fully reinstall Zwift, which I have done with no improvement so far… still waiting for new idea froms Zwift support team. I have a new computer with Ryzen 5 2600 and RX 590. Shadows around the cyclist are awful… and I don’t have 4k option neither…
Seb
Same here…
Zwift have told me there is no profile for the RX590 yet so the profile defaults to “basic” and they intend to fix this.
Not really the answer I was expecting… Thx bytheway. If I have different news from the supportI’ll let you know.
