New Worlds and Bigger Flatter Routes

When are we getting new worlds, the current maps are years old now and get very boring, would like to see a new worlds with really long flat routes (at least 32k loops), the reason people don’t like some of the more recent worlds is because there is always a lot of climbing involved. How many routes go around Tempus Fugit? I see some groups ride that route daily as events. Why can’t we have a few more Tempus Fugit type routes in different worlds? I get some people love climbing but some people love flat routes, there is a lot more climbing routes then flatter routes on Zwift.

[citation needed]

Zwift hasn’t got many small to moderate categorised climbs at all and these are ones we really need on new routes.

There’s very few cat4s, 263-525 feet at 3%+, besides Petit KOM; NY KOM; NY reverse KOM.

No cat3s, 525-1050 feet at 3%+.

Few cat2s, 1050-2100 feet at 3%+, besides Innsbruck and Watopia.

A longer/taller cat4 would take higher pen racers longer than 5mins to climb and give some a rightful seed score boost.

I don’t see any massive climbing in new worlds. Nothing like Ventop, ADZ or even Epic KOM.

We have had lots of mostly flat new roads with only small undulations. The only exception being the grade, but that is also not very long, just steep.

Certainly not the “hundreds” I assume was edited out of the original post.

Some more real climbs, proper HC stuff is what is needed - the routes people have proposed for years that will complete for instance ADZ, Lautaret, Galibier and Sarenne climbs in Watopia and the other sides of Alpe d’huez.

These very big climbs might add some spice to racing as hinted above, make racing more exciting™.

Tempus is like watching paint dry imo.

What do you enjoy about the flat routes? If it’s mostly just the lack of resistance changes, lowering Trainer Difficulty will make all routes feel flatter so you can ride the way you want but enjoy all the available roads

I only ride it in the hope of seeing a roadrunner

:desert: More Tempus Fugit, bitte!

Can we get more Tempus Fugit–style routes, please? It’s clearly the fan favorite on Zwift — flat, fast, and beautifully built.

It always makes me smile how “flat route” discussions instantly summon the mountain goats, ready to defend every 8% climb like it’s sacred territory :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Relax, friends — nobody’s stealing your Alpe. Some of us just like to ride instead of climb walls.

After all, gravity is a loyal training partner — especially for those of us who are taller than our bikes :winking_face_with_tongue:

Maybe the NY expansion might have something for you?

You can look at the new routes on the companion app now, lots of flat sections in the new areas.

There are some routes I would call “pretty flat” in the expansion but they’re not as flat as Tempus. I’ve also been scolded for calling Tempus Fugit flat hehe

Must respect col de Tempus

Richmond flat is very flat, yet pretty lonely. It is nice to have lap times to look at after.

Then there are other laps, like Volcano even with just a hint of spice, that gives you your lap time every time you cross the line and it is short (like 5 to 7 minutes).

The trouble is, the longer the road, the more of a challenge it is to design it and not have it become monotonous and boring. Even Kona can get visually boring.

I would like to see a ‘game’ world where everything is more of arcade action than mere riding. Dogs, Zombies, alien abductions, and more.

A UFO could come down and beam away bot riders on Tempus Fugit in the area near where the sign is.

But you wouldn’t want it getting too distracting would you?

Maybe to make Tempus more interesting it could have some more features:

  • a random hilly gravel diversion around the oasis area (that could have virtual rock-falls sometimes blocking the way through the oasis). People always say they like the gravel in the jungle so why not?
  • sand-drifts over the road at random times that force riders to slow down a bit?

That wouldn’t be making it slow like the jungle but it might change things a bit. And it would add the “bit of spice” mentioned above.

I like the idea of choices…a road that goes around a small hill that is flat or go over the small hill. both are calculated to average the same time. What choice would you make? What if the hill was five seconds faster?

How fast is it if I use a coffee stop?

3 months slower, 14 seconds longer on the ride and then the rest of the time is for the 500 forum posts
