New trainer = drop in power

Hi
I recently changed my trainer from a wheel on cycleops Magnus to an elite suito and consequently my power figures have dropped from and ftp of 339 to 267, I was wondering if this is normal to see such a change from wheel on to direct Drive? I am presuming the direct Drive is correct but I don’t have anyway of verifying it.

I have done all the calibrations in Zwift and on the elite app plus checked the firmware, which is up to date

Thanks

Andy

Your presumption is most likely correct

Wheel on trainers can give goofy readings

That elite has a power meter in it so it will be pretty reliable. Kind of a drag to see your numbers drop though, 267 is still a pretty strong performance though!

Be grateful you didn’t upgrade to a Tacx Neo

Why? Do they under-report output? …or are they very accurate, meaning you’ll get a reality check after switching away from a trainer that’s most likely over-reporting power output?

Tacx Neo is the gold standard, so it’s very much a reality check.

I use a Neo2T–I was secretly hoping that some hidden info meant I was actually putting out another 30 watts than it typically reads. Alas, no. It’s accurate
