They’ve got the skeletal bike from Halloween 2018 in the list. I don’t think that was possible to keep.
But it must still be in the game files, and safer to include everything to avoid bugs.
Before level 40 upgrading levels is really fast (it takes around as much time levelling up to 40 as is does to +/- level 48 and can easily be done in 2-3 months), maxxing out the tron bike to level 5 which requires maxxing out 3 frames first is a whole different ballgame though. That’s a 4-5 year effort, at least!
So if I’ve added things correctly then it looks like to unlock the Tron using 3 “entry level” bikes would cost…
400,000 drops per entry level bike (total of 1.2MM drops), then 10MM drops to upgrade the Tron.
Total of 11.2MM drops.
The distance you need to ride each “entry level” distance bike is 800km (total of 2,400km for 3 of them).
The elevation you would need to ride each “entry level” climb bike is 7,500m (22,500m for 3 of them).
The time you will need to spend on each “entry level” time bike is 20hrs (60hrs for 3 of them).
(Note I think you need to average 40km/h to level a distance bike the same time as a time bike - need to double check that math)
And once the three entry level bikes are unlocked, assuming the Tron is a “distance” bike would mean the Tron would take an additional 8,000km to unlock.
So, for instance, if you use 3 entry level distance Zwift bikes to unlock the Tron you would need 2,400+8,000=10,400km to fully unlock the Tron.
And again: 11.2MM drops.
Let me know if the math checks out.
Looks like entry level climbing bikes are the easiest and fastest way to progress, 100km will take me around 3h but 1km climbing only 1h

Well, if you use the Alpe or Ventoux to level the climbing bike, you can switch to a distance bike on the descent and at least make some progress on another bike on the way down. The climbing bikes won’t get anything for the downhills, so… may as well swap to a distance or time bike for the downhill. Since the downhill is over 40km/h the distance bike will benefit the most from the alpe or ventoux downhill from what I can see.
Edit: so I might climb with the BMX, go down with the Atomic Cruiser, then need to find a third bike to level for the Zwift bikes. This is all assuming the upgraded Tron is still relevant against other fully leveled bikes.
I just listed all files in Zwift\assets\Bikes\bikes_config.wad and the LevelUp tag.
It’s still in the game, just not available
Yeah I realised after I wrote that that mid-ride bike swaps would be the fastest way but I am so broke atm I don’t need to bother.
Wondering how often that will be shown (every 25 km?), if it is at all frequent, it just seems like some more visual noise to me.
Yes, every 25km. Might be different depending on how many km you need for the next upgrade.
It’s confined to the HUD. As far as zwift visual noise goes it’s minor
Tron is relegated now even if you upgrade it to the full aero spec it won’t be good on climbs so it’s really a flat course bike
It is a lot of fun so far, but I wish we would not have to come to a full stop to purchase the next upgrade stage while riding.
There should be a way to proceed for this, without having to brake.
You don’t have to stop and buy the upgrade. Keep riding, and as long as you buy the upgrade at the end of your ride, before saving, then you’ll keep the progress that you made on unlocking the next stage. If you don’t buy it before you save and quit, then you’ll lose that progress on the next stage upgrade.
This makes it sound like people may be punished for not understanding an excessively complex system, or for not paying close enough attention.
There’s no “may” or “might” about it. Plenty of people will get bitten by this.
Is this clearly documented somewhere? I didn’t see that and I thought I read through everything.
Regardless, when I see this, as a gamer it is intuitive to act immediately.
As I just did…
And the experience wasn’t the most fun!
Depending on the improvement, might be worth stopping, upgrading and then continue in your race.
I agree with you that either not explained well or at all, and that it’s natural to think that you have to stop and buy the upgrade.
After your comments, I actually looked around and found it in the FAQ. I would expect the messaging to be better:
Pro Tip: To maximize your progress, purchase your bike upgrade as soon as you complete the ride that meets the distance, elevation, or time requirement for that stage. This way, any extra progress beyond the requirement will count toward the next stage. If you wait until your next ride to upgrade, you’ll start the next stage from zero.
Anyway good to know. I wouldn’t think to check the FAQ when the other requirements were otherwise VERY clear for me (I was a gamer before I was a cyclist, so I’ve been explaining this whole upgrade thing to many people over the last couple of days!)
