New Halo Bikes, New Drop Shop Bikes [March 2025]

Wow. 1 million just to upgrade the Tron and that’s after 3 Zwift brand bikes.

I’m going to see how quick I can go in 4 weeks. 3 bikes, $6 million, 40 hours, 15 Alps, and 1600 kms.

But why!?

I don’t understand why someone has to have “bought the upgrade” to have more work count towards the next upgrade.

I think it should be OK to ride 250km and then go into the garage and unlock the stage 1 and 2 upgrades for example, and still be 20km into the stage 3 one.

It seems an arbitrary “you’d better remember to go into the garage else you’ll lose all your progress!” trip hazard that serves no beneficial purpose.

Also, what if I don’t have the Drops to upgrade during this activity? I need to ride next time to upgrade, but that doesn’t count through no fault of my own other than being “poor”. Plus, if I need a lot of drops, it could be days or weeks before I can upgrade and start working on the next level.

It’s a stinky system.

High end bikes are 20% increase, I think. Lower bikes get 33% then more drops. I don’t think anyone is 100% sure.

Should be 10,000,000 to get the Halo bike and then another 10,000,000 for all of the upgrades if you want to fully upgrade it, so 20,000,000, plus all of the drops into the three-bike-upgrade requirement.

I would plan about 30,000,000 or so per fully upgraded Halo bike in drops including the other bike upgrades in that cost, and a lot of time.

Thanks a lot for this. But still weird that we have to pull it ourself and nobody at Zwift even thought of that this is info we wanted to know. ‘Lets make the frames upgradable, but lets not tell them what they have to do for it and what frame needs what’

Shocking…

and yes, I know it will be on Zwift Insider but such mayor upgrades should be provided by Zwift and not put on a 3rd party website that 90% of all Zwift users have never heard about.

Downloaded 1.86 on the phone, bought the Sworks SL8 and equipped it. Still stuck on 1.85.2 on the PC and had a laugh when I rode with the '24 Canyon this morning because the SL8 wasn’t available. I guess I’ll join you all at a later date.

I’ve been doling out more ‘Ride Ons’ since this was announced just to help people earn more drops.

Aero trumps weight in a lot of instances (in real life too which is why the pure weight weenie setups have largely disappeared from the pro peloton). Historically a full-aero setup was as fast or faster than a full-climb setup up volcano for example.

@Eric_Schlange_ZwftIn can you do some segment tests to compare setups on certain common segments? Also can you clarify what the “climbing” test is for “saves X seconds per hour of climbing?” Is it 5%, 10%, theoretical pure-vertical mass/power elevation gain? Probably pretty easy to give the weight savings from the upgrades in kg for a more complete understanding. Also instead of (or in addition to) seconds/hour of flat at 300w can you give it in watt savings at 40kph?

When we first got the Atomic Cruiser, I set 3 pb’s, 2 sprint and the aquaduct climb on RGV over using my Venge S-works and disc 1100’s.

But there are lighter more aero bikes now, eg s-works tarmac sl8

Which is why we need someone to run a standardized test comparing the Tron against the SL8/7.8 up the volcano for example.

Why can’t I convince myself that the Pinarello Dogma 2024 is good enough and all I need to do is switch between 454’s and SES 7.8’s.

Do I need the SL 8?

We NEED all the everythings!

My thought is the tests are over 1hr, is the time savings really going to matter over a race of 30-40min. There might be a “slight” feeling of being better, but a better rider will trump that feeling even if they are on a slightly less advantageous bike.

It’s not going to make a massive difference except at the very pointy end of competition, and in that rarified air bikes are often neutralised anyway, so it’s moot.

I think mostly it’s just for fun/engagement/motivation, and maybe to give you a tiny edge against yourself when going for sprint/KQOM PRs.

every second faster up the alpe du zwift is 1second less pain…

So as a “not better” rider, maybe that artificial feeling of being better is as good as I’m going to get!

You need to bare in mind the tests are done using a 75Kg rider at 300W.

If you are on the course longer, which certainly applies to me now compared to most of '22, those time differences between different frames/wheels/upgrades will be greater.

And if you’re 15kgs heavier than that, those climbing improvements are more and more valuable.

I am on version 1.86.0 and rode about 60k today on my usual Aeroad Frame, but progress still shows 0/200 km. Is there some cron job going on later on that updates the progresses or is it a bug?
Not really a major issue, but if it’s a bug I just wanted to let you know.
