Maybe easier to read at a glance. But you should also be seeing the current gradient in the top right of the map view:
To me that “4%” seems pretty clear and I think you can see far enough ahead to plan getting in the right gear.
I do agree the overall profile at the bottom could have more contrast against the map though.
