Macbook Keeps Freezing whilst Riding

Hi Everyone,

I need some assistance to work out why Zwift keeps freezing on my MacBook.

This issue seems fairly new as it’s been happening over the last 6-ish weeks.

Zwift launches (I have it installed directly on my MacBook) as expected and my turbo connects, but then either not long after I start riding or sometime into a ride the screen will freeze.

I usually run ZC from my phone and I can usually see that I’m still moving, so I generally wait until it unfreezes to either stop or if I’m racing (which is mainly TTT’s at the mo) get my team mates to help me tell me where I am and guide me.

My laptop is on the latest IOS and I have plenty of memory left in terms of storage on the laptop with over 1TB left. The RAM is 16GB (see screenshot).

I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling Zwift and even followed the instructions on what to do if Zwift crashes, but this doesn’t appear to make a difference.

I thought I had enough processing speed, RAM etc for the video screenshots to happen, but that’s also not working.

Does anyone have any idea of what’s going on or what I can do to help solve mainly the issue of the freezing?

Thanks

Video screenshots are only enabled on the M series CPUs as far as I know. I am no longer using an Intel Mac so I can’t check.

If you’re running Zwift full screen, you could try running it in windowed mode and see if there’s any difference.

If you have iCloud sync enabled for the Documents directory you should test with that disabled.

If you have any security or anti-virus software running, test with it disabled.

I don’t have an Intel Mac laptop, but I have checked with Intel Mac Pro 7,1, the video screenshots are enabled:

(also on the Companion app working)

Machine is Intel W3275M 28 core, 96GB RAM and Radeon Pro W6800X 32GB MPX module. Very different spec machine. I cannot help with the crashes however since my machines are different and my normal Zwift machine is M4 Pro Mac Mini.

Your amount of RAM is quite reasonable, but the Intel Iris graphics I’m not sure about.
