Why can’t I late join an event (like The Big Spin) and start at the beginning of the route (at the starting pen) and then cycle the complete route?
Now when you late join, you get transported to a (random) place in the pack/on the route and I see many people complain about the place they get dropped.
But in my view Late Join should give you the opportunity to still do the event, although you’re late, but do the complete route and not just a part of it.
If you want, the Big Spin events are available as free rides, and you can do them whenever you want, always starting at the beginning.
But, in general, I would say that the reason it works the way it does is because people are joining a ‘group’ ride, not a solo ride, so they want to be placed in the group.
I know I can do some of these events as a free ride and I understand that (probably) most people want to do the ride as a Group Ride, but it would be nice to have the option to start at the beginning.
Especialy is you’re just a minute or two late, pleanty oportunity to find a group by just pedel a bit harder at the beginning (is a nice challenge too)
Hi @Gi_Go! Welcome to the forums! I’m Francisco from Zwift Support.
Ah, I see where you’re coming from—it’d definitely be nice to be able to join late and still get that full experience, starting right from the beginning of the route. I totally get the frustration with being dropped into the middle of the pack.
The way the late join feature works right now is designed to help riders get into the event without disrupting the flow too much. When you later join, you’re placed somewhere along the route to avoid clumping riders together and creating too much congestion. I can see how this might feel like you’re missing out on part of the experience, though.
I’ll definitely pass your suggestion along to the team-Thanks for bringing this up, and keep the feedback coming—it’s always awesome to hear how we can make the Zwift experience better for everyone!
