Jet Black Victory

My Kickr used to drop out a couple of times a ride - which is the reason I wanted a trainer with WiFi. The lack of virtual shifting was also a big deal. I didn’t know about QZ when I ordered the JBV.
Since using QZ, my Kickr hasn’t dropped out once.

The trainer will likely be packed away in about 6 weeks time for the next 6 months, as I’ll be back riding outdoors. Come October when I’ll be back indoor riding, there will probably be plenty of JBV stock available (with any bugs ironed out)… or maybe even a Kickr V7?!

I think for the sake of a few weeks riding, I should do the sensible thing and cancel my JBV order.

I am interested in your feedback on the elite rizer if the problem came from the rizer or the jetblack in terms of compatibility. for my part I still can’t update the home trainer under android I have to go through my wife’s phone under apple each time. in terms of power precision it always displays about twenty watts higher compared to my assioma duo on powers of 300w to give an idea, and when I am freewheeling I have my zwift avatar who is still pedaling it is stuck at 17/20w for 10 seconds. I had done a test so I did manual calibration during the outing and that had solved the problem of freewheel cadence and the power displayed zero directly and in terms of power precision it is close to less than 10w of the assioma

Freewheeling while watts shows as 10-13W with a cadence also reading in 50s is a pain. Seems to result in your avatar slowing down on a descent compared to others picking up speed.
Seems to take about 10-15 seconds for both power and cadence to read zero and by that stage you are back spinning the legs.

This is an issue when virtual racing, you would like to catch a break on a descent but you end up working on a descent to keep up with others.

Just got an email that the march pre-orders for the JBV are open. But I’m glad I found this thread - I think I’ll go for the Core instead.

the problem for me with updates is that it gets worse and worse. and it is impossible to go back to a previous version

Has anyone had their vibration problems fixed after support replacing the bearing? That’s what they’re offering me, but they can’t even reproduce or locate the vibration problem (how that is possible, I don’t know) so I’m not confident at all that the problem would be fixed.

UPDATE: My JBV had a solid connection via bluetooth but if I connected via WiFi I would get drop outs around the 50 minute mark. I’ve now updated the firmware to the latest version and tried WiFi again. For the first time ever it didn’t drop out!! Happy camper. Hope this continues

Yes, they said they could fix the vibration in house so I sent it in and they fixed and sent it back. Issue is still there though.

Oh wow, is it still bad? Are you sending it back again or how are you dealing with this?

Mine had been solid, but in the last week I had 4 1 second dropouts on a ride of about 1 or 2 seconds before it reconnected. I upgraded to the latest firmware and now I’m getting occasional dropouts (maybe every 30 minutes), but these require me to power off/on the trainer. Just tried switching over to Bluetooth and hopefully that will be ok.

I like it better than the core

400 miles on my Victory during February and had my 1st WIFI dropout today. No other issues going on. So I’m really pretty happy with it.
Thanks.

Got a refund from Jetblack on my Victory pre-order. I’ll carry on with my Kickr V5 for the next few weeks, and will likely pack it (and my Zwift Ride frame) away when I come home from the Easter holidays mid April for the next 6 months.

Can re-evaluate in September / October when it gets darker and colder! Hopefully the JBV has all its bugs ironed out by then and stock available, or maybe there will be something else new out like a Kickr V7 that ticks all the boxes.

I opened a ticket with jet black about my wifi disconnects which I only got after the latest firmware update. I got an answer via their Canadian importer (A1 sports) who have said the issue is likely related to the speed sensor. They asked if I’m happy to do it myself (need a torque wrench) and I am and it looks like they will send me the replacement part. I’ve been using Bluetooth since the dropouts and that has been reliable. Will report back when I get the replacement part.

It’s odd. Just before the last firmware update I started getting wifi dropouts every 20 minutes or so, but just for a second or two. Then I updated the firmware and started getting a dropout around once an hour, but that would require a power cycle of the trainer. I’ve switched to Bluetooth now and that hasn’t dropped once since (maybe 5-10 hours of riding since in roughly 60-90 minute blocks).

They also mentioned fixes coming in the next firmware release related to wifi.

I’ve had a few wifi dropouts recently and JB are sending me a new PCBA main board to replace myself as I didn’t want the hassle of sending the trainer back. I’m assuming it’s got some new updated wifi components on it. Hopefully that will fix it as I’ve been really pleased with it other than the drop outs.

Please let us know how the swap went. I’m in the same situation. I’m using Bluetooth until the end of the indoor season.

Thanks,
David

I’ve just had an email from JB saying I should receive the new board tomorrow. So I should have time to get it swapped over this weekend. I’ll let you know how it goes.

So, I’ve swapped the boards over and it’s pretty straight forward. The only slight issue I had was trying to pull the speed sensor connector off the board, it was very tight and needed quite a bit of force. The other connectors all came off easily as they were a different type with the tabs on that you press to release them. The new board received had the same version number as the old board (v3.11) but the dot-matrix style text below that had a different number on it. Unfortunately, whilst testing last night I had another wifi dropout so JB are currently looking at my latest log file, but it sounds like I will be getting sent a new trainer.

I sent my second unit in to get the bearings replaced and checked over. Hopefully it’s smooth and maybe I can use WiFi.
