Issues with activity syncing, cannot download activity .fit

Hi - I’ve never had issues syncing activities from Zwift to Garmin/Strava before, but after my ride today my workout did not sync to either Garmin or Strava. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting my connections after reading some other posts, but that didn’t work. In addition, I can only see my ride in my feed but when I click on the activity the page (activity ID 2101796671536005168) is completely blank and I can’t download anything.

What device do you use for Zwift? PCs for example have all the files saved on the hard drive.

On Windows, it looks like the file itself is corrupted. I have both an activity that has the same name format as all of my other activities as well as a “inProgressActivity.fit” one that is the same size as the corrupted one, and attempting to fix via the “Corrupt Time Fixer” fitfiletool options does not work.

When I attempt to upload the file to Strava, I get an error message saying “The upload appears to be malformed and we are unable to process it.”

When I attempt to upload to intervals.icu, I get an error message saying “2026-03-25-11-18-59.fit: FIT decode error: Endian 38 not supported. Error at byte: 522”

Can you share more details about the PC specs? I’m interested to know if the video screenshots feature is enabled, since that is only turned on if the PC hardware meets a certain standard, but it can interfere with activity saving sometimes.

Running on a 2018 thinkpad with one of the older 64-bit x86 i5 processors, I’ve done hundreds of rides before without issues.

Which CPU is in it? Check the Windows System Information app or let me know the model ID of the laptop, usually printed on the bottom. Since it’s a very old laptop I doubt it gets the video screenshots feature, but if it has HD5xx series graphics there is a workaround for that. Hard to guess without knowing what’s in it.

It’s the i5-8250U - I’ve had video screenshots upload in the past without issue

That CPU model isn’t supposed to get the video screenshots feature at all, but if it’s enabled in Zwift settings for some reason, turn it off.

You should contact support and ask them to explain the fit file corruption.

I have the same issue and it is random and happens since the update that changed the folder structure (where activities are saved) There has previously been zero issues saving files. The new folder is populated. Most activities save correctly and sync. Every couple of rides now, this fails:

  • a inprogess activity is created, but the file stops recording after i.e. 20km (of a 100km ride).
  • timestamp is 1-2 hours before saving the actual ride
  • and activity appears in my Zwift feed, but can not be opened (no file to download). It is displayed with correct lenght, duration, and score bord. Screenshots can not be viewed on companion but appear to exist (only can not be viewed because the ride can not be accessed, red error flag “activity can not be displayed” - same via browser.
  • the local file is broken and if fixed with 3rd party software, incomplete, matching the time stamp that is way before the activity was finished
  • Zwift seems to stop recording to the local file, and does not create a downloadable file on the server.

I have noticed this happens to other people in my feed, as I can not load some of their activities (but most of them) and they seem to get the same issue. This is not caused by the user. Support gives me 3-4 AI generated answers that do not help at all, blaming my setup, suggestions that do not help and do not match the error pattern (why can some rides be saved? how can running zwift as admin make a difference in this case? how can write permissions to the folder be a problem, if a file is created that is broken - and most rides result in a complete file!)

System information is Win11 built 10.2.26200 with actual patch level on a R9 7900x/4070 - and untill the last update I have saved hundreds of Zwift activities on this system without a single error.

I don´t think this is to be fixed on the users side. Zwift suddenly - mid activity - stops writing to the file and/or does not complete creating a complete ride file when asked to save the activity. With all required rights to write a file. From issues a few years ago I know that even if a local file is not created and no sync to other platform happens, usually it will be on the servers side so you can download it via browser/companion app. But this is not the case here.

It seems the problem is widely ignored and the latest updates have not been thoroughly tested before release. Asides, not happy about AI based support system that takes 3-4 requests to escalate an issue to a human (hopefully!)

Please rollback the old patch level untill this issue is adressed @ Team Zwift!!
