iPhone ZC constantly dropping and repicking up

This was a “forever” issue and it had gone away for a long time. The latest update has brought it back. My iPhone is two feet from the laptop, The game coverage drops and starts again after 20-30 seconds. It works for 5-10 seconds and drops again. Over and over.
When: 20 MAY 24, approx 17:20 CST
Zwift game updated just before riding. I deleted the app and reinstalled in-ride. No difference
iphone: iOS 17.5.1
ZC 3.57.0(1710)
Server Version: 1.366.0
Connection info: 192.168.254.181(en2*)

The connection with ZC has nothing to do with the distance from the computer. It just requires that the game and the connected phone be running on the same wifi network. My guess is that the internet connection where you are riding is weak. The computer probably doesn’t have any issues because it only operates on wifi, but the phone might be switching backhand forth between wifi and cellular. You might try turning off wifi assist on your phone to see if this helps. If not, you might try a different wifi channel (I think 1 is a good one), or moving your router somewhere closer to your Zwift area. FWIW, I have also noted that the wifi signal in my house seems to be affected by the weather, if you happen to notice any pattern with this.

Also, reboot all of the network equipment. This does help sometimes.

Thanks for the response.

I checked: both laptop and iPhone are on the 5G version of the home wifi. Would the other be better? I work off the same system for my job without issue. The wifi has an extender about 8 feet from the PC and phone. Plus this was not an issue before yesterday’s game upgrade. I am hesitant to just say “wifi” when it took many months to fix last time I saw this behavior.

I will restart the router but I am not optimistic.

I do love your game.

Also, I tested the internet off my phone. I got 109 Mbps down and 61 Mbps up.

5GHz WiFi is best unless you are far from the access point. Make sure the WiFi Assist feature is disabled on the phone so it doesn’t ever switch to cellular data as a backup. Or put the phone in airplane mode and then manually enable WiFi.

A WiFi extender can also cause problems depending on the details of what it is and whether your devices stay consistently connected to it or if they sometimes switch to a different access point. If the extender uses a different network name from other access points, go into the network settings and “forget” the network names associated with anything other than the access point you want it to talk to.

Note that the suggestions you’re getting are from other users just like yourself. If you want to engage Zwift support you can do that directly. They sometimes respond on the forum but not always.

Hi @Robert_Gaudsmith_TX, welcome back to Zwift Forums. I’m Juan from Zwift. I’m glad to see that you are getting great suggestions from our experienced members.

Do you have a non-standard network setup? If so, you may need to open some firewall ports or make other exceptions for Zwift to work properly. Please refer to this support article to learn more about it.

If the issue persists after these suggestions, please contact us. We will be happy to help you.

The only thing that seems to work is to set the phone on airplane mode. It is still connected to the wifi like the PC.
