Internet connection speed

Hi all,
Thanks for the invite into the world of Zwift!

I completed my inaugural ride on the island last night. It was awesome and I really enjoyed it. However, I don’t think my graphics card in my laptop is up the the task. All worked OK but graphics jumpy. So… contemplating getting a faster better spec laptop to resolve. Possible issue in that I am rural UK and we have poor internet connection speed - Approx 2 Mbps. (No chance of fibre arriving where I am) Can anyone tell me the minimum connection speed for the graphics to run smoothly assuming you have a PC capable of running them smoothly? Thanks in advance… Mark

The graphics processor is almost always the limiting factor for video games, and even with a 2Mbps connection I think you should be able to play. I’ve checked your config and your computer wasn’t really built for running 3d games due to the limited ‘integrated’ graphics chip from many years ago.

Almost any brand new computer will run Zwift reasonably ok these days, including the current $470 mac mini, or some $500 complete laptops. Your experience on Zwift will only get better as more money is spent on the graphics chip. It might be an option worth exploring if you were considering upgrading anyway.

Many thanks Jon, just wanted to check before splashing out on a new computer that it was the limiting factor, not connection speed. Thanks again, appreciated.

Even better, I see you have released the mac version, so I will have a look at that over the weekend as I have a reasonably new 27" iMac to try it out on.

For what it’s worth, my Internet connection is pretty crappy too, maxing out at about 2.75Mbps typically. My wife and I run Zwift simultaneously, along with me streaming iHeartRadio, with no problems at all.

Thanks for the info Noel. Good to know.
