I’m only in favor if it reduces my subscription price, or prevents an increase AND that ads would be discreet.
Why is there no in game advertising? Zwift certainly has the in game elements to allow for discreet ads. Seems like a really great opportunity for some advertisers, both large and small. I have seen some at specific events, Shimano for instance. The ads could be all kinds of things beyond just a logo on a banner. Make the ads dynamic, clickable links in some way. Maybe clicking on the ad sends a text with a link, something not to interrupt the ride. Could show the new trailer for whatever show/movie. again with the link, or a rider could stop and watch the trailer. The ads could even rotate as they do at soccer games. One screen with several ads on a timer. Some cool effects. Could also be used to announce new Zwift features (scotland) or announcements.
Language would be interesting, or maybe advertising can be regional. NA users get NA content + International, Europe gets Europe + Intl, etc. I’m thinking some advertisers would want to cover all users, Trek for example. And what a cool place for cycling destination vacation companies to advertise! Want to go ride in Scotland, here is a company offering trips!
Would also be interesting to see advertising displayed in the manner it would be in the local environment. Im sure not all countries allow the giant landscape blocking billboards we have in the US, would be interesting. Just to be clear, Im NOT advocating for giant billboards.
Advertising space could be specific to an event as well. Beyond just a custom jersey, allow the event organizer some space to share their message, extoll their views, share a link, whatever.
I’m always amazed that this type of advertising isn’t more prevalent in video games. No product placement, or very little.
Seems like it would be a good source of revenue for Zwift, could be fun for the users, and could be a really great avenue for a smaller cycling related business w a limited ad budget and/or a way to connect with uses for the various charities.
