How to find Sweet Spot Training that isn't high cadence

Hello All. Wanted to do some SST today- looked at different workouts and picked one but then ended up with the high cadence block. I don’t like cadence over 90; I can do it but after 95 I start to feel it in my knees and just don’t love that cadence. Is there a way to see cadence level in Zwift workouts before you actually are on the ride?

I don’t know of any, but I don’t think missing the cadence target affects any metrics/stars. I know it’s annoying to have the thing constantly flashing though.

You can make a copy of the workout and delete all the cadence targets. It’s a bit of work but if you plan to use it regularly it could be worthwhile. Click on each block in the workout and it will show the cadence target, which you can remove by clicking on the X. Once you do that and click Save it will be stored in your custom workouts collection.

Sweet spot workouts are also generally quite simple so you can also just create a fresh one that is similar to one that you like and that might be less work depending on how many changes you are making (eg, if you want to delete a lot of inane text prompts in a workout that can take a while in the workout editor).

Note that custom workout creation and editing are not supported on phones or mini-tablets.

I never heard of doing that. The issue is that I can maintain by watts but I prefer to do it at a lower cadence. I don’t want to do less work (defeats the purpose) but want to save my knees. I will try this. After 7 years on Zwift, still learning! Thank you

It’s true it’s annoying. I found myself using my gears a lot trying to increase the resistance so that I can lower the cadence and meet the watts but of course then I got the spin faster. Perhaps I should ignore that. Do you think I’m still getting the benefit of Sweet Spot? I’m trying to build my strength

Are you running in erg mode? If so, you don’t need to shift gears, the trainer will adjust resistance so that you’re putting out your target watts. And as long as you’re putting out the watts, you’re getting the training stimulus you need. The only thing higher cadence does is shift the load away from your muscles to your cardiovascular system. Feel free to ignore the cadence targets if they’re not appropriate for what you’re trying to do.

Thank you Christopher. I’m assuming I’m in ERG; it happens automatically correct? I don’t recall turning it off. I shift in order to reduce the cadence and keep up the watts. So I need to shift up to get more torque.

In ERG mode you should be able to simply maintain your preferred cadence and wait for the trainer to respond by increasing or decreasing resistance. If you see something on the screen that says “more power” or “less power” when you’re in ERG mode, you should ignore that and just keep pedaling as you please. In ERG mode they really should not show that message at all.

Thank you Paul. I will confirm that I’m in ERG mode but perhaps I turned it off awhile back and forgot.

It’s usually the lore that higher resistance is harder on the knees.

I guess cadence is a preference whether your knees hurt or not, so if you don’t want to do a high cadence I’d follow the advice to copy the workout and delete the cadence targets from it.

But bike fit changes might fix the knee issue.

You don’t need to shift in erg mode and you can ignore the cadence advices
