Hello everybody,
I have just bought a zwift ride (with a wahoo kickr core).
Can I block the sprocket to have the same behaviour that a spinning (or a fixie) bike?
Is there some adapter or something like that?
Would I lose any features like virtual shifting?
Thank you so much
Velobike makes a fixed freehub for the Kickr Core that has a thru-axle design. I have not heard of anyone using it with the Ride but it seems like it could be done. The freehub has no relationship to virtual shifting.
I’m not sure if the fixed freehub would alter the trainer’s axle spacing to 120mm like you would have on a track bike. I suggest asking them about that. If it does then it might make the conversion more challenging.
Thank you very much for your fast replay.
I’ll ask them the axle question.
I suppose I should order too a threaded track sprocket. Could you please recomend me one of their cataloge with adecuate tooth profile? How many tooths, 14T?
Thank you
Last I heard the Zwift Ride uses the KMC Z1 narrow chain. Looks like the appropriate sprocket would be the 14t version of this, but you may as well ask Velobike if you’ll be talking to them anyway.
That is a fairly costly sprocket (presumably high quality but I haven’t used it) so if you’re trying to keep the price down you could choose some other 3/32" width threaded track cog.
A fixed gear, meaning the pedals would still go around and around depending on the in-game speed/gear you’re using?
why?
why?
Cris,
I have a coordination problem that prevents me from correctly sequencing the pedal stroke with both legs. The result is that I don’t get a “round” pedal stroke and the freewheel hits the hub very often. This effect disappears on spinning bikes (I have 2). However, the sensation of pedaling, when it goes well, is much better with the wahoo trainer. Also the ERG mode works much better on the wahoo trainer.
By the way, I’ve received an answer from Velobike telling that their adapter isn’t compatible with any thru axle.
I didn’t understand. I’ve seen this tutorial in youtube and it seems not so impossible:

For your use case I wouldn’t pick the Ride frame. Single speed bikes are cheap. Add the Play controllers to that. Convert a Kickr Core, and you’re ready to ride.
