GPS Data of Virtual Routes Incorrect (e.g., Glasgow, Ventoux)

While I highly appreciate that the Paris, London, and NYC GPS data of the routes (with the exception of Times Square, which seems to have been slightly dislocated for dramaturgic reasons) are consistent with real life (which allows impressive views on Strava and Veloviewer with the 3D map) and while I understand that worlds like Makuri Islands (and, of course, Watopia) have no real places to be mapped into, I wonder why other specified locations are incorrectly GPS-mapped.

Glasgow and Mont Ventoux, for example, are depictions of real life locations. However, the GPS data is slightly off (Glasgow) or completely off (Ventoux).

How come, Zwift? :man_shrugging:

Am I really the only one who is bothered by this?

yes

I’m guessing, but it is likely due to the fact that the rest of the world is made up fantasy and not based on a real place which is what you see with the Scotland map and the France map in Zwift. Older worlds like New York and Richmond were originally based off real world places using GPS data. I think Zwift has mostly gone away from that with the new worlds they have introduced.

As Mike indicated, these are just intended to be depictions of these areas, with some of the ‘flavor’ of the country and countryside. I’m guessing this is why they are ‘Scotland’ and ‘Ven-Top’ (and ‘France’), as opposed to Glasgow and Ventoux. Same thing with Alp du Zwift.

Sad, but you may be right.

I have no problem with the fantasy worlds being off the real map (why should they not?), but it’s just a bit disappointing that Scotland and France (at least Mont Ventoux, for that matter) don’t have real GPS data.
