Hi Paul - Running Sequoia. But if it is a problem with Z not playing nice with Sequoia, it’s Zwift’s problem to fix! I worked in the medical device industry and we had similar issues with Windows all the time but we didn’t just blame Microsoft. Part of robust software validation is identifying problematic hardware/software combinations, making them fail, and testing again after the software is revised to address known issues.
My goal here to try to help you get a good experience. I can’t represent Zwift’s position on this or say who has to fix it. I know they are looking into it. The advice is to go into the Privacy & Security settings, disable and reenable the local network permissions for Zwift. If you don’t see that setting available for Zwift, reinstall the game and it will probably show up.
Confirming that we at Zwift HQ are actively looking into reported issues of connectivity issues between Zwift Companion and Zwift Game that appear to be correlated with macOS Sequoia.
Thanks for the reply Evan! You described the problem as “reported” and “correlated” with Sequoia. Have you actually reproduced the issue in house on a Mac running Sequoia to prove that is the issue? And if so, have you replaced Sequoia with Sonoma on the same machine to confirm that that is in fact the issue?
We don’t have a durable internal reproduction of the issue yet, but we’re still digging into it and we’re looking closely at customer reports that appear to correlate based on that common factor. Some people (like me) are on Sequoia and can’t reproduce the issue at all, but we did have two employees who observed issues similar to what was reported (but have not been able to reproduce after uninstalling/re-installing Zwift). Anyway, we’re digging into this as a high priority and will share more as soon as we have any recommended interim solutions or a permanent fix.
Sorry to be a pest, but a simple acknowledgment that there is a problem and could be fixed by going back to an earlier software version would be a big help! I use a dedicated Mac for Z and wouldn’t have a problem reinstalling Sonoma if that was a fix. But I don’t want to spend hours fooling with software and not fixing it. I understand it’s a complex issue but with all due respect, Z hasn’t been forthcoming about what the problem is and providing a work around. Instead I’ve seen lots of non Zwift posters simply speculating in the absence of known information and I’ve wasted lots of time trying each suggestion and a simple acknowledgement and known work around from Zwift would greatly help.
We don’t yet have a reliable workaround to share as we have not yet identified the root cause of the problem, so we don’t recommend doing anything like going back to an earlier OS version or anything at this time. I apologize for the prior lack of clarity on this and we will be providing more updates moving forward in this thread: Companion App connection problems? [iOS 18] [macOS 15]
I’m confused. You want a “known work around” from them when they’ve said they can’t reliably reproduce the problem? How would they go about providing the work around if they can’t prove that it fixes the problem? They can’t prove that anything fixes it because (since it’s working for them right now) they can’t tell the difference between status quo and the “fix”.
Hello Tom. You are right they can’t provide a work around until they reproduce the problem and fully characterize it. If you read Evans post he says
“we’re digging into this as a high priority and will share more as soon as we have any recommended interim solutions or a permanent fix”. Interim solutions = work around
Is it “unrideable” for you in a race or group ride?
Honest question.
I don’t have steering and have not noticed a problem in Group D races.
I run Zwift in windowed mode on a PC running Windows 10. I use Borderless Gaming with Zwift in order to allow me to have several apps/programs overlay the Zwift window. I got the update to v1.82 last night, prior to ZRL and I noticed that my Zwift window was slightly askew. I attempted to reset Borderless Gaming but no matter what I do, the actual game window remains off center. Oddly, the initial pairing screen when starting the game looks correct. It’s only when the main screen comes up that things get wonky.
Edit: I did try rebooting and that did not solve the issue
I get that occasionally, a reboot has always cleared it up
I tried that (should have mentioned that in my original post) and the issue persists.
Phased rollout to all platforms continues today.
PD5 is not active in races as of the most recent update from ZHQ
Not every login but frequently I have to toggle Local Network Access for Zwift off then back on which always fixes the issue but still a pain having to do so.
Control access to your local network on Mac
- Choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Privacy & Security in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.) Open Privacy & Security settings for me.
- Click Local Network.
- For each app listed, turn the ability to access your local network on or off.
Hey @William_Moran , like Evan mentions, a “fresh install” of Zwift following the process in this link has helped a couple of employees including myself fix the issue, and it has not come back for us since. this however, has not worked for some users.
I know you mentioned trying multiple suggestions already, just in case, I wanted to make sure this fresh install was one of them!
If you read Evans post he says
“we’re digging into this as a high priority and will share more as soon as we have any recommended interim solutions or a permanent fix”. Interim solutions = work around
Right. He said they will provide an interim solution when they have one and you said “Thanks. Do you have an interim solution?” Hence my confusion.
Hey John-
Really appreciate your reaching out. I’ll give it a try!
FYI, my daughter’s Mac is running Sonoma, so I downloaded Zwift and logged on. I immediately saw the beautiful blue colors of Companion synched with Z!! Logged out, and started up Z on my machine running Sequoia. No sync. So pretty definitive proof it’s Sequoia. But she won’t let me use her Mac to Zwift over sweat concerns. LOL.
BTW, I was riding in Innsbruck yesterday and it seemed like there was more detail and redesigned buildings etc. Beautiful. Has it recently been refreshed?
While I have your ear, I would really really like to advocate for more levels above 100. I recently reached 100 (not bad for a 73 year old) and I unexpectedly really miss following my progress to the next level. No incentive to get extra xps by completing routes, etc.
Thanks Again John!!
What happened to the erg mode button during workouts? It’s not there. I’ve tried everything. Does this update require a higher level of PC? I have an old PC that is took a while to load but once loading it worked fine. But now I have no erg mode in the workouts.
