@hampsta Great suggestion, thank you!
I feel the easier solution would be to make the routes available to ride outside of events.
Event only for some promotional event - sure, if that’s how you want to drive people to join these events. But once that event is over the route should be available to everyone at any time.
Why not make event only routes open for everyone once the event is over ? I understand you want to keep some routes exclusive for events. But when the event it over you should just put them out in the open for everyone to ride when that world is available.
Seems like the answer is to end event only worlds and develop them instead of hiding those badges. It’s kind of like a parent hiding the bag of candy, you might forget about them because it’s not directly in your line of sight but yet they are very real and just out of reach 9/10 times.
This is a good idea. Bologna could be a nice one to build out with some steep Italian climbs added outside of the city at different corners and then Bologna comes into the normal route cycle.
I concur. I think that Event Only Routes and Event Only Worlds are counterproductive.
People who want to join events will join them regardless whether they are on a particular route that they need to badge hunt or not. And for those who are strictly badge hunting, it reduces our Zwift experience feeling as if we are forced to join events just because we want a particular route badge, or to access a particular route.
Holding back on very great aspects of the game like Bologna, Crit City and other worlds is silly.
Moreover, there are other routes that are event only which are absolutely miserable and do not have badges (thankfully), like France Classic Fondo which is Event Only. Still, we should be able to select those if we’re looking to do a 100-160km free ride on a cold and rainy winter Saturday morning, because it gives us something different to do, regardless whether there is a badge to obtain or not.
Why we have access to 90% of the routes 100% of the time… baffling.
And why there exists a VERY attractive “Gravel Mountain” like being teased in this link, which nobody can ever create an event for and ride (and especially not free ride) - even more baffling.
If they want to increase engagement with the platform, let us engage how we want. ![]()
Also how many events are in Bologna? It’s 16km round trip on the out and back course. How many laps did the ZRL race do on it? 3? With the city sat right at the base of the hills, some of the local routes look dreamy on Strava. Even if they only made 10-20 miles that would be a win!
Interesting to see, but it’s notable that it doesn’t say which of those routes have badges.
Is there a page that show Only the Events for the events-only routes?
lol
lol
lol.
I knew there would be some fallout.
What baffles me is that you actually have meetings about this and when someone suggested ‘lets just hide everything’ that not everyone else in that meeting facepalmed and say ‘no, lets not do that. You dont play the game do you’.
We all know the minute you put things in the game it gets out. Wether that is by datamining the gamefiles or in an article on 3rd party websites, it gets out.
Zwift isnt the most transparent company there is already, to put it mildly, and hiding even more things certainly wont make it better.
So why you all agreed that this is the best solution really beats me …
Evan, thanks for link to the list of Event Only (EO) routes and feedback. Unfortunately the list has the same issue as Route Explorer in the Zwift Companion (ZC) app.
In the ZC app users can specify EO, search and find all those routes in a specific world but you have no idea if there is an achievement badge (& bonus XP). The route details page doesn’t give any clues nor does the Worlds Completed Routes xx/xx as this doesn’t include EO routes in the total regardless if they are associated with a badge or not.
Now the un-ridden EO route Achievements are going to be hidden, please consider updating the ZC app Route Explorer functionality to address the above and update the route details page to offer similar functionality to “whats on zwift dot com” e.g. Upcoming group workouts / events on route.
Thanks
Shane
Not really you have to use 3rd party sites; What’s on Zwift? or zwifthacks events.
Is it really an achievement if you don’t know it exists? ![]()
Also note, how come the Enve wheels aren’t in the changelog?
Happy to see fixes for solar stability brought back to Watopia and the worlds, and notifications cut back on workouts.
Seeing Gravel mountain listed on that website is a kick to the shin ![]()
whyyyyyyy can’t we ride on it!
I do a weekly gravel ride and I want something newwwww!
No it is really not. I am a batch hunter and it makes me happy if I see unchecked badges in the achievement section. Even if it means I have to wait till the event or when I can free ride them.
I have done all 199 route badges there are at the moment. Route badges are impossible to do by accident like the power or other extra badges, since you have to select and ride the whole route and that is kinda impossible on a free ride.
So if the route badges you dont have are hidden it doesnt make me use Zwift more or at all, when I just can go to MyWhoosh and start the routes there and tick them off.
They just removed the engagement I had with Zwift and the badges …
Phased rollout to iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV devices has begun.
How do I turn off the friends zwifting messages?
You do a structured workout.
Queue a massive increase in “free ride workout” as a workaround.
That said, I’d hope we can still disable this at some point down the road; though to be fair I’m not an avid teleporter like some people are, so the information of someone being teleportable on my … several hundred long followers list, eh…
