Also to add to what @Daren said. You have to have the companion app up and running. If you don’t see the Map on the Companion app you wont get the option to turn right.
Thanks so much gents. I did see the turn and nothing came up on my ipad, which normally reminds me to check the companion app to make a turn.
I also guessed it may only be accessible from the one direction so did turn around but alas still no prompt. It could be that at that time I was not in the companion app, but sending chatting in whatsapp. I’ll make sure I am in the map view next time. In fact I will try tonight again. To give me the best chance I will not do a workout and will use the route mentioned here.
Thanks again.
MTBing more fun than expected. Like the ups and downs and sharp turns. Steering worked well. Would gladly do much longer and more technical courses (please Zwift teach me how to steer boardwalks IRL!) Second time around I tried to crash (sadly, nothing exciting happened) but still seemed to get a gold stars…? However, I did manage to fail on a star by going through the unstable section of the bridge.
The MTB prize should surely not depend on time with that big climb at the end, as then it is all about power not skill. Looking on Strava my time for the segment (~10:30) is 28% through the women and 44% through the men. That suggests rather more of the men are getting the prize bike which seems a bit unfair. You really don’t need to discourage us women any more than strictly necessary!
Afterwards I cruised around Central Park on my new MTB for a few minutes …
As for the road resistance problem. Yes it is a big problem. Did Alpe du Zwift race last Sunday and flew past people as soon as we hit the dirt road in the jungle. Very unfair. In case it is useful to others, my wheels that seem so fast on the dirt road were the light ones you get as a random prize on completing the Alpe. I don’t think tyres make a very big difference to speed IRL on dirt roads. Fatter tyres just add a bit of comfort. So why not just zap this “feature” and maybe resurrect it for some actual gravel routes in future…?
It does not you just have to get 9/10 stars.
Says 12:30 and 10stars on the zwift website!
Completely agree!! This has rendered useless my favourite warm up & training loop and and I don’t see what real purpose this has served other than alienate regular users. By all means make some new sections with different rolling resistance for MTB riding but why change a well established and well used route. I can’t see that many users are going to change tyres / wheels just to ride around the Jungle; most likely they’ll be like me and stop using it which is just sad. Not looking forward to crawling down the hill any time I want to ride the Alpe either…
Agree. I use zwift for workouts/training and not really into having to worry about what gear I need to use for which route, I have enough trouble with that IRL.
Too bad this is a section needed to access the Alp climb, Even though I like that climb I will avoid any group rides/races that include this section since it totally takes away from the group rides and looks look like it makes racing frustrating. Who needs that
Daren has put it well. Rolling resistance/tyre selection should not be forced on us, on the established routes and road racing.
Fully agree!
I scored 9/10 and did not get the MTB unlock. But I went very slow, so I assume time does make a difference.
I was wrong, I think there is a time limit. Sorry for that.
Does anyone know what the latest version for IOS is. I am currently on 1.0.40510 and have had no updates recently. Last one was for steering which i dont think included the new features such as increased rolling resistance on gravel, etc.
The latest iOS version is 1.0.40510.
Thanks Paul, just wanted to check in case perhaps this update was only PC only as there seems to have been a few updates in the last week or so and nothing rolled out as of yet to IOS
Hi, there seems to be an issue with the rolling resistance and Apple TV users on the last update. We we enter the cave after the turn option for Alpe du Zwift, all Apple TV users lost a dramatic amount of speed and were locker out of the peloton in the rage. I talked to the other users and they all used Apple TV. It starts when riding on the planks.
Totally agree with this. If I wanted more realism, I’d ride outdoors. If I’m riding indoors I want less boredom - which means more worlds/extensions, not this stupid rolling resistance feature. It’s not like there’s many routes in Watopia that don’t feature a dirt section. Would be nice to be able to switch this off. If you want more realism in the speed calculation then you need to start penalising lighter riders on flatter sections (W/kg isn’t realistic) - so either do the realism properly, or leave it alone as it was. I’d vote for the latter.
Love the new courses great for improving anaerobic ability. However it seems this update has just changed rolling resistance everywhere. Where I once could cover a Gorby at 240W intervals I struggle just to do 200. I did a Hayman’s this morning and could barely make it through the sweet spot interval. Why has Zwift done this to structured workouts? If anything the inertia factor needs to be lightened on this interface, not heavier. Playing with the “realism” gauge just a leaves a void and doesn’t take into account the rider device on the other end. Please Zwift put it back to the way it was, if only for structured workouts so our power levels actually mean something.
I’m not sure I understand, but changes in the rolling resistance have zero impact on your ability to generate power. If you could do 240W before and can only do 200W now, that has nothing to do w/the rolling resistance changes.
Something in the game has changed where I am seeing a big reduction in power, roughly 15%. Zwift isn’t terribly accurate with this data but I can usually operate at about 8-10% more capacity on the road using a crank based power meter . Much of this is because I’m on a ride on trainer. Now I’m just lost and have no idea where to place ftp on structured workouts. Group rides are almost unrideable now where you can’t turn this new feature off; I could at least do that with that horrible ERG mode.
