Game Update 1.52 [November 2023]

There was a change a few updates ago that reduced the auto breaking speed down from something like 28km/h to 17km/h (and it evidently takes a while to coast down to the lower speed before having the game apply the brakes automatically). Will see if I can dig out the post with the change.

The new part in the forest gives also a shocking framerate. Everywhere else it is fine, but only on the forrest.

Can you confirm whether you are using a laptop, and whether it is on battery power or plugged into wall power?

If you’re getting a fixed 20 fps, that sounds like Battery Saver mode is active, which is a setting in Zwift game settings that only applies when using battery power.

If this is the case, you can either plug the device into wall power to bypass Battery Saver mode, or you can adjust the Battery Saver setting in game settings to either increase the fixed FPS limit (the “High” setting caps at 25 FPS IIRC), or you can disable it altogether - just note that running update uncapped FPS will increase your battery usage.

If you aren’t using a laptop though then this is not applicable; please let us know if that helps.

@shooj and @evan-zwift - Any word on if there are functionality updates for Clubs coming at some point in the relatively nearish future (the next year)?

There are two changes that would make a world of difference in how useful clubs are–1) functional Keep Together for club events, and 2) Expanded workouts available.

Don’t need a sea change in what clubs are or do, just those two things to make an already-existing feature so much more helpful to people. Not looking for a specific date, just really very curious if it’s even still part of the plan in any way, or if my club and I should abandon hope and look for other tools to use (not as in ‘leave Zwift in a huff’, but rather ‘what other ways can we do club events’)

Ah! I had totally missed this. I guess this explains why, at the end of my rides, my avatar now coasts long for significantly longer than it used to, even on the shallower grades.

Mine are random, sometimes it’s the right sometimes the left

I’ve been riding with Yumi all week without any issues. Following the update I struggled to stay with Coco today in what was meant to be an easier ride. Something has changed. My Wattbike was hitting 350w with Coco and I’ve never had that before.

I achieved a new feat with 1.52 :face_with_peeking_eye:

Just managed to get across, but was too scared to look down!!

The CA BT bridge continues to have issues with ATV.

try with both charging while using and see if it helps.

Oh man … yes that’s it → battery saver mode.
I missed that setting because it’s only available or shown if you are in the world and not in dashboard settings. If i deactivate it get the usual 120 fps… or alternative plug in the power cord.

I never noticed that because my last sessions all was with power cord plugged in and i´m really new to Zwift. Thanks for your fast help and point me right

Have a nice day.

@shooj Ive encountered a few red squares across Watopia after the update, all emerging from the rear light. First encounter was Heading down Coast Crusher, after the huge jungle bridge, second one was riding through the desert.

Not sure what’s triggering this, but the center of the squares is always the tail light of my Concept Z1.

Sad that the mixed terrain rolling resistance is getting nerfed. Totally understandable that people free riding want to go faster, but it made races way more interesting. Would love to see event organizers have the option to turn dirt, etc. back up to full strength in the future.

The talk surrounding the changes in the different types of bikes, and their ‘interaction’ with the different road surfaces in Zwift has me thinking something like this, which is based on my completely unscientific IRL experiences:

Paved surface
Gravel bike: a bit slower than the road bike
MTB: a bit slower than the gravel bike

Unpaved surface/straight lines and bends (uphill and downhill):
Gravel bike: a bit slower than the road bike
MTB a bit slower than the gravel bike

Unpaved surface/sharper corners (uphill):
Road bike: slightly more auto-brake applied than gravel bike
Gravel bike: small amount of auto brake applied
MTB: same autobrake as gravel, but with more Crr (those shocks suck a lot of power)

Unpaved surface/sharper corners (downhill):
Road bike: much more auto brake than gravel bike
Gravel bike: some auto-brake applied, getting stronger for steeper gradients
MTB: same as gravel

IMO: There is really no need for a MTB in Zwift at all. There just really isn’t the terrain, nor should there be, to warrant the need for an MTB. Until there is some sort of interactive device that makes things like rock gardens feasible in Zwift, I just think that the MTB is unnecessary. It might be nice, just visually, to have an MTB if Zwift would bring in some virtual singletrack, but, outside of that, there just doesn’t seem to be any functional need for the MTB on any of the Zwift terrain. (That said, I have not ridden Repack Rush, and my last ride on Repack Ridge was long ago, so maybe the MTB makes sense for that.)

I think the value of the MTB is more cosmetic at this point - if you took it away there would be a bunch of complaints saying there’s nothing for mountain bikers. Or, I guess it still helps shift the difficulty of pace partners up (i.e. Riding MTB on road requires a bit more power on road than gravel bikes do which require more power on road than road bikes).

This is probably a controversial statement, but I personally wouldn’t mind if they only had TT bikes (where you can’t draft), and road bikes (where you can), and all the road bike differences were cosmetic (Trons glowed, there are different colors of each bike etc but they all had the same physics).

Why?
I’d personally rather them put design/dev effort into fixing the core riding UX - making a customizable HUD like Sauce, or a better gradient view for instance than all the effort modelling, tweaking, and continuously updating every bike component on all these bikes for what is really only seconds differences for most of them (I use the Tron, and mostly don’t ever switch off it - even on climb routes). The reality is most people use only a couple of bikes to begin with and the rest in their shop are mostly useless… and the difference in performance between their road bikes is usually not going to make the difference in a race anyhow.

But everyone has their own priority list I guess.

Same here - the biggest flashing of the squares was right at the base of Epic KOM.

Pace Partners are left in the dust on downhills droppin the drop meter back to 1.0.Tends to defeaft the purpose of a coffee break to come back and find your rider over 40 meters ahead of partner.

Coffee break attaches you to a specific rider. A random rider in the pack. Where they go, you go. I’ve been dragged through the fence in a group ride using coffee stop. These are the risks of using it the way it’s currently designed. It would be super cool if it would attach you to the pacer, or to a group ride leader, but that’s not how it works today.

I haven’t done that yet  but I have noticed that I can move off the road a lot easier in places, such as Yumezi where the roads are skinny.
