FutureWorks: Steering Phase 2

You need to pair it by your Companion App for Apple TV
(check the video from GP Lama)

I got mine from run and ride for £105.00. There are usually several for sale in ebay UK and for higher prices if you just search, at various retailers. Got mine new from a retailer about 6 months ago.

Not quite

though is it? Can’t even find any on eBay. I have my own opinion on the Sterzo but I think this is an unfair criticism.

Daren found one. But top searches yield results like these:

I just did another search and found several. 5 available on Amazon alone.

I can only find the one listing at £173.99 and it’s out of stock. Weird.

Doesn’t allow you to post links…?

Weird. It tells me that I can’t include web links in my post. Same with pictures…

I asked North Pole Engineering, the makers of CABLE about decoding the ANT+ signal from the NEO TRACK and this was their response:

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for contacting us regarding our CABLE and the Neo Track.

The CABLE was designed to convert data received from devices using standard ANT+ profiles such as ANT+ FE-C or Bike Power, and convert those into the corresponding standard Bluetooth service.

From our understanding the Neo Track doesn’t implement a standard ANT+ profile and instead implements a custom profile to transmit its data. If we have the data format though, yes we could decode it. Second, there is not currently a standard Bluetooth service for the steering data. However, again, if we have the Bluetooth service specification Zwift is using, we can make the Neo Track work with the CABLE.

Unfortunately, we don’t currently have the required technical information from Tacx or Zwift to implement a solution in our CABLE as of yet. We are working with them though to support this new feature.

Kind regards,

This is normally just down to user levels. If you haven’t posted much, you lack those privileges. It’s to try and discourage spammers and drive-by posters. As you post more, you’ll gain a higher level and be able to post links etc.

There are many customisable USB and even Bluetooth button solutions readily available that could be used should Zwift enable button-based steering on PC/Mac or Zwift Companion. A quick Google brings up some interesting options.

GP Lama (Shane Miller) had a video a few years ago where he made a custom controller board with large buttons to emulate certain PC keyboard commands in Zwift. You can go nuts with Arduino projects, but some of the ready-to-go solutions would probably suffice. No need to wait for one of the trainer vendors to create something and charge you through the nose for it.

Hi

Just want to share my positive experience with you…

Ordered my Sterzo Smart friday morning ( CET ) at the Zwift Store, it arrived here in Denmark Tuesday :+1: And I got it set up Wednesday.

Installing it under my frontwheel, replacing the Neo riser block, was a 5 minute job, and the geometry fits my flatbar/fittness Trek FX perfectly.
Pairing on Windows 10 was instant and it just works.

The first test rides shows a very realistic experience. I don’t really see any great improvement in the Zwift experience on the normal routes, it’s fun to be able to place your avatar on the road, but since I’m zwifting for the workout I don’t really care.
But on the Repack Ridge MTB course it´s so fun. No doubt that I will visit the dirt from time to time until Zwift implements more features that makes use of the Sterzo :slightly_smiling_face:

And I guess the Alp and Ven-Top will be just as tough with steering as without

Hello Zwift/Futureworks,

Small question from my side. I have the normal Sterzo, not the Smart. Is it possible to use the new steering functionality with the normal sterzo in combination with the companion app on my phone that is attached on my bike? Or is this only for the “Repack Ridge”? If not, will it be in the (near) future?

Kind regards,

I got my SterzoSmart yesterday. My PC without BT is hard wired to my modem. I use an ANT+ dongle to connect. I can’t seem to get the Companion App on my Iphone to connect to the Sterzo. The phone is on my wifi connection so the PC and phone don’t share the wireless connection. Any plans to include ANT+ connection or should I sell the steering unit?

Hi @Dennie_ter_Bruggen welcome to Zwift forums.
The 1st generation MTB feature using Companion app to provide steering input will continue working on Repack Ridge, but that’s the extent of it. As explained above, there are too many variables for this method to deliver a predictably uniform steering experience.

Hi @mike_connair welcome to Zwift forums.

For now, only the Sterzo Smart’s Blueooth LE signal is supported. We are working with Elite to have it work across ANT+ as well, but that’s still down the road a little bit.

Buy a cheap BT dongle.

why are you NOT supporting the Neo track?

We’ve also had it for sometime at the Titaniumgeek YouTube channel. Steering in game is akin to learning a whole new skill on Zwift. We will get out far more content soon on the Sterzo Smart - and remember, we have a combined 80,000 km of Zwifting behind us and believe we have a different insight.
