Freezing/Crashing on AMD integrated GPUs [November 2024]

Post your log file of your last good ride into Zwiftalizer.com and see where you are at for performance. You have U-level cpus which are low powered. Does not matter what Zwift says is compatible, each update is getting more and more onerous towards system resources. Most likely it is unintentional, but it is happening. Too many reports on this website and other places.

Zwift PC Masters & Riders group on Facebook might be able to help. The site owner diligently tracks performance and notes issues every update.

Sure. A lot of my interactions with people have been on Facebook. There have been dozens and dozens of people reporting this that I have seen, and the driver update seems to help most of them. There are exceptions but I don’t know why. We need Zwift to say more about it.

I hope these people are still experiencing good stability :grinning:

Hi Paul - so I did the driver download (as per image) and I’ve also uninstalled and reinstalled Zwift and tonight, it happened again - 7 minutes from the end of an hour ride. It’s so frustrating as I haven’t changed a single thing about my set up. I have reached out to Zwift support, let’s see what they say. Someone below has mentioned “deleting videos”. What does that mean? Thank you!

Disabling the video screenshots setting in Zwift might be what they referred to. Sorry it’s not working out. Zwift have been AWOL on this issue since the beginning which is a shame. They must know something is going on because so many people popped up who all share similar hardware and problems.

ah ok. Well I’ve just gone in and disabled that anyway, just in case. I’ll see what Zwift support say. Out of interest, once I’ve downloaded the new AMD drivers, do I need to do anything with them each time I go to use Zwift or will they just work in the background? Some IT proficiency would be very helpful in the situation!!!

Once the drivers are installed (not just downloaded) then they persist and you don’t have to do anything. I wonder if you got through that process completely. Might help to have access to a teenager or computery friend who can look at this and make sure you got through it.

You’ll probably get the runaround from the tier 1 and tier 2 people, but there is an existing issue that’s been elevated from tier 3 to the engineering team for this AMD issue. Hopefully they can just add you to that chain.

Thank you for that. Yeah that’s what I’m expecting. However it is reassuring to know that there are lots of us in the same position so hopefully they will look into it more broadly. In the meantime I can still use zwift to train, and just record it on bike computer. So at least I’ve got a backup!! No funky screenshots though

I honestly feel like a teenager who games would be able to sort this for me in 5 minutes

After some advice, I updated and installed the latest AMD drivers for both of my PCs, hoping this would resolve the crashing issue. Unfortunately, my experience hasn’t improved. During my Zwift session yesterday, one PC froze again after almost exactly 38 minutes, and the other crashed after just 8 minutes.

This is incredibly frustrating, especially since I’ve been using both PCs for years without any issues until the most recent Zwift update. It’s disappointing that such problems persist, despite taking all the recommended troubleshooting steps.

For now, I’ve decided to cancel my Zwift membership. I hope that others experiencing similar issues will consider doing the same to encourage Zwift to prioritize finding a solution—ideally one that doesn’t require us to purchase new hardware.

It’s unfortunate, as I’ve always enjoyed Zwift, but these recurring crashes have made it unusable for me. If anyone has had success resolving this issue, I’d appreciate hearing how you managed it.

It’s also a cautionary tale about the choice to buy an annual subscription.

The good news is that most competitors offer free trials or currently don’t charge a fee.

My 3 crashes have happened at approx 40th, 80th and yesterday 120th minute. Zwift does a “backup save” every 10 minute I think so you never totally lose a ride which is a good back up feature, but then it’s doesn’t sync to Zwift. And my OCD doesn’t deal with that well….

I’m 95% sure it will be a glitch with 1.78, I’m technically useless to start going all laptop talk and have no idea what I am talking about.
Glitches happen. I would be more than content if I was inform there was an issue with 1.78 and an update soon would end the issue. It sounds 1.78 related and not my laptop…….

Zwift: just a simple honest response is all I ask for so I don’t panic buy a laptop……

V1.78.1 or v1.79 likely to fix it

Can you confirm this? It has been going on for weeks now and i’m planning a big ride in 2weeks, but not if it’s not fixed

I usually ride about 3-4 hours. Recently zwift crashes after about 2 hours. the longest has been 2,5h then it went down.
I think it is zwift that is playing up, because sometimes the screen freezes and I can terminate the zwift process and restart it. Most of the time it also takes down Windows and I have to restat the PC.
Anyone have an idea what I can look into that could solve this issue?
I think it started with version? 1.78 but could have been the previous version.

I reinstalled Windows. reinstalled graphics drivers. Played around with BT, ANT+ or Wlan connection to the wahoo. Reinstalled zwift.

It worked without any flaws the past 4 years.
What changed is that I had a Stages SB20 and now a wahoo kickr. It worked without a problem at first. Can that thing have a pronlem that causes Zwift to go down? When all is running there are no issues whatsoever, just after about 2hours the screen freezes…

it isn’t the trainer, it is likely whatever Zwift changed recently that is causing a lot of issues especially with AMD Ryzen machines, is that what you have too?

Have you also turned off video screenshots? That would be my only other suggestion.

see this thread for additional info:

where are you getting this information? If not from Zwift, please don’t speculate and get peoples hopes up. Until we hear an official word about what is causing so many crashes lately, it is best to rely on good intel, not guess it will be fixed soon.

YES it is a Ryzen PC!! Thats the problem?

can only speculate at this point, no official word from Zwift about it
