Free rides have become free spins

Hi - after a great set of workouts, my free rides keep coming up as free spins I’m pedaling but the wattage keeps falling back to 50 or 60. Even in big ring/ smallest rear ring, it lets me push hard momentarily, but when the flywheel comes up to speed, the wattage falls back down. Very frustrating to be pedaling in the biggest gear at 130 rpm and getting nowhere fast. The structured workouts feel just where they are supposed to (i.e. 200 watts is much harder than 140 watts), so I know it can provide resisitance.

Is this a setting problem?

David

What is your setup? Which trainer, and what sort of bike/gearing do you have on the trainer?

That would have been good information - sorry - Wahoo KICKR with my Felt Z85 mounted, 2-10 gear rings, could get tooth sizing, but it’s just like the KICKR has no resistance when on Free Ride.

Are you talking about any free ride? Or just the ‘free ride’ after the workout ends? If the latter, what workout are you doing (Zwift workouts, or a third party)?

Any free ride. Any course. After exiting and re-booting twice. I’m taking from your tone that this is unusual…

Yes, unusual. What device are you using to run Zwift? Are you connecting via Bluetooth or ANT+? Are you pairing you trainer as the ‘Power Source’ and as ‘Resistance’?

Yes. The KCKR connects as both resistance and power source (and rpm) and I have a Wahoo HR chest strap for BPM. I’m running off a MacBook Air with no other products running simultaneously. I may be messing things up by also tracking the ride with my Wahoo ROAM bike computer (although it says “passive control through other device”)
and my Garmin watch, so I will try not having those connected next time.

Hi @David_Haworth.

Thanks for sharing your concern about the power. This is Haziel from Zwift, I wanted to share some troubleshooting steps that might help you.

After reviewing your logs, I noticed that your trainer is updated. Sometimes running a test ride using your trainer’s app can help us to aisle the issues you might be facing.

Once you’ve confirmed that your trainer is functioning well with the manufacturer app, please make sure to pair your speed sensor on the pairing screen and select your trainer from the next menu.

Also, it might be helpful to test if the same issue happens with other devices that you can use with Zwift.

If you continue to experience problems, please don’t hesitate to contact us to provide further assistance.

(Power, not speed sensor)

Thank you everyone for your help. I will continue to see if it happens and let you know if I continue to have difficulties. Much appreciated, what a great community.
