I have used an NUC 8i5 solely for zwift for several years now and it has been great but unfortunately has died. ocasionally the fan would buzz a bit starting up then quieten down. A few days a go i had a random freeze and graphics glitch playing zwift and had to shut down the unit. It then worked fine for a couple of days. Tonight i had a major graphics freeze with patterns all over the screen about 45 mins into a ride. I shut it down but now the thing has died with no display. I pulled the unit apart, tried different ram, booting without the ssd and so forth. Another psu but nothing. It appears the fan stopped working and that was enough to de-ball the cpu/gpu. It can be a bit tricky to hear these things whilst you turbo so i would advise who put a lot of hours in to make sure their fan unit operates like it should and to ensure the unit gets good ventilation. There was no fluff in my heatsink. Regards.
Hi, @Neil_Bah_7446, welcome to Forums! I’m Francisco from Zwift Support.
I appreciate you hanging in there and sharing your experience with us. Sorry to hear about the hardware troubles.
Fans are super important for your PC’s performance and longevity. Keeping an eye on temperature is crucial for any device. When fans are positioned right, they help maintain a cool environment by directing airflow to essential parts like the CPU and GPU, which stops them from getting too hot.
Installing fans that direct cool air from outside the case onto the GPU can help keep it cooler, reducing the likelihood of the fans sucking in hot air again.
Overheating can be a serious issue for gamers, as it not only disrupts gameplay but can also cause long-term damage to your computer’s components.
