Hi guys
I’ve tried to Google this, but with no luck, so hopefully someone can help!
I want to create a custom workout on Zwift that would go like this:
2 hours of Zone 2, followed by 5x3min max effort intervals around 3450-375 watts each with 3 min rest periods, then a further 30 mins of Zone 2.
This is what my coach has given me to do. I did it last week but I’d like to be able to see what my average power is for the 5 intervals during the session, and then afterwards I’d like to see what power I averaged for each of the 5 intervals.
Is this possible in Zwift?
It would be similar to what I do when I do intervals on the road with my Garmin 1040 - for each interval, I use the ‘lap’ button so that when I look at the data in Garmin Connect and Strava, I can see the barge power for each interval.
I have tried just connecting the Garmin when I do Zwift, but it doesn’t seem to work (doesn’t record distance?).
Any help appreciated!

Hi,
I have Zwift connect and transfer data to Garmin Connect. After riding a workout I see every segment of the workout as a separate lap in Garmin Connect including average power. Would this be what you are looking for?
Hi Magnus. But how do I create a lap or ‘segment’ in Zwift when I am riding? (Like I do when I am riding on the road with my Edge by pressing the lap button).
Hi
That will only happen if you create your ride as a custom workout within Zwift. If you do a freeride, then I don’t know of any way to trigger laps in the Zwift data recording.
I’m not sure you can set laps up on Zwift, it is something often asked for on this forum. Might possibly be included in a new HUD (Heads Up Display) which should be coming soon.
You might want to check out GitHub - SauceLLC/sauce4zwift: Sauce for Zwift™ which many use for various reasons to give additional information not generally provided by Zwift. I use but so far never bothered with lap function. sauce4zwift fairly open that their documentation/FAQs not great. Others can let you know if S4Z will give you your live in game 3 min average power.
Check out Intervals.icu this will certainly provide you with all the after the event statistics you need. Example with 2x3 min efforts (rather poor efforts Im afraid!)
Hi Magnus. How do I create a custom ride? I looked but couldn’t see where/how to do this.
Showing screenshots from an iPad:
This opens the workout editor:
Hope this helps!

Another option is to import custom workouts created in TrainingPeaks or TriDot

Hi Magnus
Getting closer! Haha.
When I go to that screen, I make sure that ‘duration’ and ‘effort’ are set to ‘all’, but the ‘Create Workout’ box (which you circled) doesn’t appear. Nothing appears! See my screenshot below. Any idea why?
I am doing this on my phone so am skipping the screen when you first go into Zwift where you connect your HR monitor and power. Maybe that explains it?

Hi Magnus
Have just checked and I can see the ‘Custom Workout’ option on my iPad but not my phone. Weird!
The devices that support custom workout creation in-game are mentioned in the support document I linked above.
Also it is risky to run Zwift on multiple devices such as both a phone and a tablet. Unless you make sure the app is terminated after use, it will often destroy your saved progress in the game.
Thanks Paul and Magnus.
I only train on Zwift on my iPad. I was just using my phone to try and understand how to create a custom workout.
All sorted now! Easy once you are in the custom editing area. Thanks for your help!

Note that you could also do your 2h + 30mins blocks as freeride - then Zwift won’t interfere and allow you to feel the terrain (as freeride runs in sim mode) and leave it to you to control your effort. For the intervals I would also choose ERG mode just as you did.
Good point, Magnus. I did actually change the 2 hour and the 30 min blocks to ‘free ride’ but then changed them back to Zone 2z. I think I’ll change them back to ‘Free Ride’ again!
Hi Magnus. So at the completion of this ride, I should be able to see, in Strava and the Garmin Connect app, the average power and HR for all of the individual segments? (i.e. the 2 hours of free ride, the 5 intervals, and then the final 30 mins of free ride?).
Hi
Yes, that‘s how the workouts I do on Zwift appear in Garmin Connect for me.
Excellent thanks! I am doing this session this morning, so I will report back .
